Tai Er, a famous eatery from China, has made its way to Hong Kong, and I couldn't miss the chance to try it. The fact that it's nearby made it even more appealing. We visited one of their branches in Hong Kong due to its convenience and reasonable prices. We decided on the fish with side dishes, thinking it was for 1-2 people, but it turned out to be quite a generous portion, enough to share among 3-4 people. We decided on the fish with side dishes, thinking it was for 1-2 people, but it turned out to be quite a generous portion, enough to share among 3-4 people. The fish was tender, not too spicy, and the slices were surprisingly thin but large (5-6 cm each). The fish soup with pickled cabbage was a perfect match – flavorful and a bit spicy, making each spoonful more enjoyable. Adding potato noodles inside gave it a nice chewy texture. Both of us ordered rice, which was shiny, slightly sticky, and smelled delicious.
The egg-crispy rice cake was a treat – crispy, hot, with an eggy aroma, and the inside was soft and chewy. Topped with yellow bean powder and sweet black sugar, it was a delightful mix of flavors.
We also couldn't resist trying the limited edition Sichuan-style spicy seafood chicken with peppery sauce. It had big prawns and a rich, satisfying spiciness.
For dessert, we enjoyed the sand ice powder with red bean and condensed milk – cool, chewy, and refreshing. The milk pudding with red bean ice was coconut-flavored, filled with red beans, and had a soft, pleasing texture.
In summary, Tai Er lived up to our expectations, offering a tasty and enjoyable dining experience that makes us look forward to coming back.
