It’s sad that the Covid driven lock-down has been disastrous for many industries and the restaurant sector in particular. My empathy towards the local restaurants has driven me to order takeout at least 3 times a week from my neighbourhood, hoping to support the unfortunate restaurant owners and their staffs.This particular restaurant opened a few months ago amid Covid. has driven me to order takeout at least 3 times a week from my neighbourhood, hoping to support the unfortunate restaurant owners and their staffs.
This particular restaurant opened a few months ago amid Covid. At the time, I thot to myself, this owner has guts and I respect the entrepreneurial spirit. And I have been ordering take-out from them to show my support.
Sadly, the other day I ordered my usual, and when I arrived to pick up(again as usual) and presented my credit-card for a meal that cost $97, the female waiter (or perhaps she is the manager) gave me the “frowned upon” look and she signalled that I should pay cash instead given is ONLY $97. I was totally shocked to say to least. I told her that I am a regular and I have been ordering the same for the last few months and been paying via credit card. She replied that given the discount on take-out order she would expect a $97 dollar meal to be settled in cash !! 🤔Yet, previously, nobody ever mentioned that to me !!
Give me a break !! It’s $ 97 dollar NOT $9.7 dollar, besides given the Covid, we all prefer to use plastic over cash.
Anyhow, she let me settled in cash and “nicely” (yet pretentiously) said: “ It’s ok, no problem !”
I wonder, would she rather have NO order / NO biz and NO job than the trouble and the intangible sunk-cost of having customers to pay via credit card ?!
How sad !!!! I sincerely was trying to help the neighbourhood business !
Oh well... this will be the last time I ever order from them.
