Boyfriend discovered a place in Shau Kei Wan he wanted to take me to. The Starred is a rather grand looking restaurant. Just look at the outside!Inside were chandeliers and lush red leather seats.Even a replica Mona Lisa. What they serve is Western fare. Menu is in English and Chinese. They have a lunch menu which includes a soup, bread, main and drink. Or come a little later and have an excellent value for money afternoon tea menu. This includes a main and drink. Drinks were more than the usual

Or come a little later and have an excellent value for money afternoon tea menu. This includes a main and drink. Drinks were more than the usual coffee and tea. You could order a variety of fruit juice.
I had the braised beef with gravy ($42). This was served with a side of salad that was actually dressed. The beef was delicious. Tender and so flavorful from the sauce. There was a sweet soft carrot and celery. The sauce was rich.
I had a choice of rice or pasta and I chose pasta. There was a sprinkle of herbs on top. But I just dumped it onto the wonderful sauce from the braised beef to not waste the sauce.
Boyfriend had the create your own set and chose Roasted New Zealand Beef Ribeye Steak ($22) with scrambled eggs and fries ($28). A nice thin cut steak was juicy. The gravy was rich and delicious. The fries were crisp. The scrambled egg was soft and fluffy.
The food was delicious. Service was nice and efficient. The whole place felt fancy without payng a lot of money. No wonder boyfriend said he always returns.
