Rokkaku is really a great hidden secret . Just had a great dinner with two of my friends. We had the chef recommended sashimi and sushi set. The seafood quality are great. They are all very sweet and fresh. The hamachi, scallops and shrimp are impressive. Toro was not bad, but it is not the best toro cut. Yet, the sushi rice are superb. The vinaigrette in the rice are well balanced. The firmness of the rice in the sushi are perfect. The taste of rice actually elevated the seafood on the sushi.
The deep fried tofu was a surprise. The tofu are fried with crispy skin and soft center. The sauces complement the tofu perfectly.
We also had a soft shell crab maki. It is a common item on Japanese menu, but rokkaku's chef have made this simple maki to a delicious delicacy. The soft shell crab is deep fried perfectly, and balanced with fine cut cucumber.
We finished the meal with a bowl of Inaniwa Udon. The texture was perfect. It was al dente and crisp. It was flawless.
I have to agree that they serve the dishes in a slower pace. Yet, this gave us more time to savour each dishes carefully.
