Dinner. Climbed up the stairs and entered the main dining room with view of the open kitchen. Seated near the open French windows leading to the alfresco area. Dinner. Climbed up the stairs and entered the main dining room with view of the open kitchen.
Seated near the open French windows leading to the alfresco area. Struck by desire to fall asleep by the really soft lighting.
Decided to go a la carte as didn’t like the tasting menu. PickyEater wanted a soup, but none was available.
Wine list was ok. Went for a glass of Burgundy white.
Here’s what we had.
Amuse Bouche: refreshing chilled melon soup with crispy ham bits.

Bread basket. Good- didn’t expect any less from an eatery operating a pizzeria downstairs.

Oysters- only the Gillardeau was available despite various options on menu. Creamy but on the small side. Orange lemon dressing on the side.

Veal Tartare- seasoned with tarragon, egg sauce adding richness, and delightful crunch of caramelized hazelnuts.

Calamarata Pasta: despite a long 40-minutes wait, the calamarata pasta was worth it. The thick, ring-shaped pasta resembled calamari squid rings, and its chewy texture paired beautifully with the cuttlefish and nutty romanesco broccoli. The anchovy sauce added depth, and the cracker-like taralli crumble was a clever touch.

Charcoal-Grilled Lamb Chop served with sweet and sour aubergine caponata (ie a Sicilian specialty combining eggplant, onions, tomatoes, olives, capers etc). Manager was apologetic about the long wait, and gave me a glass of red to go with the lamb. PickyEater pickily pointed out that the lamb came out medium when we asked for medium-rare; but I thought it was perfectly cooked (didn’t like it so rare anyway).

Lemon Tart topped with meringue and blue berries etc. Loved the pastry.

In summary: despite the hiccup (like the wait of eternity) and the sleep-inducing ambiance; service was attentive and the quality of the food was so good to leave us satisfied and eager to return. All is forgiven.
