The dining business in Wanchai is booming. In those hidden lanes, there locates interesting and new concept to feed your stomach and mind. Inspired from Taiwanese 'Gua Bao' (steamed bun), BAOWOW is a casual style restaurant. It is a cool place but more expat-feeling, for those looking for small bites. The semi-open buns are kept in the steamed bamboo basket, and you have a rich flavor list served freshly by cooks. Japanese imported beers and Taiwanese sweet beer is the must try items. Well, fart
For big group, the best choice might be Bao Platter with 6 baos in different flavors. Among all the flavors we tried that night (including the new seasonal flavor), we appreciate the Original Gua Bao most. It's the similarity of Shanghainese sweet pork meat, in a way of honey sweet and heavy soy sauce dressing; it is rich in taste with crushed peanuts and cilantro. Rank 2, would be Thai Fish Fillet, which I love its mouth-inspiring sauce.
As my experience, their steamed bun has quite good quality. Perfect ratio of flour and water forms up the fluffy and soft bun; it is well kept during steaming process to be dry on the surface; and there is a slightly sweet after-taste when you are chewing the buns slowly. To be pointed out only, is the temperature of buns, which really needs you to take it immediately, otherwise it turns cold and hard with more humidity soon.
