Café Loisl is a bit out of the way at one quiet corner near the infamous Po Hing Fong. This authentic Austrian coffee house creates a truely relaxing and austere ambience for anyone who doesn’t want to fight the touristy crowds in Central, especially over the weekends. It is delightful on first glance and has a good outdoor seating/smoking area. The physical layout and decor of this coffee house is adorable with rustic Austrian decorative furniture all over the place. A great range of specialty

A great range of specialty coffees are available on the board and the server was knowledgable enough to help us with our selections.

We ordered IVC (Iced Viennese Coffee) and apple strudel and they both match our expectations.

The IVC ($52) strikes a good balance between caffeine and milkiness.
It was diluted by the heavy presence of whipped cream and quite mild in general. I enjoyed this seemed bottomless iced coffee once in a while but I would prefer the traditional way of drinking coffee next time – hot and stronger in flavors.
Still, it made a great choice if you are not a big coffee lover.

I am not sure if the scrumptious apple strudel ($48) is in the authentic Austrian-style as it tasted quite different from those I tried in Wien – flaky phyllo, sweet fillings with a hint of cinnamons.
The version here at café loisl had a generous filling of unsweetened apple and raisins, wrapped layer upon layer of chewy pastry. It was baked until golden brown and sprinkled with granulated sugar.
However, the wrapped cream aside was semi-melted by the time it arrived and I would prefer a little more cinnamon. Still very nice though.

I love this place for the warm and inviting ambience.
Can't wait to try their Sacher Torte and Einspanner next time!
