Some colleagues and I headed over to the King Ludwig Beerhall in Yuen Long after a seminar. I wasn't really expecting a lot. In fact, when I saw that the menu had Singapore noodles, and dumplings, and curries, I was about to give up on it. The sausage platters don't live up to the high standards set by the beer. We started with the sausage platter for 1-2 people (there were 5 of us but we were getting lots of stuff). The sausages were teeny. The platter is more like for 1/2 to 1 person.

Still sausage-starved, we ordered the platter for 2-3, which was closer to a platter for 1-2. The white sausage on both platters was fantastic and a hit with everyone at the table. The darker red frankfurter type sausage was bad, with tough skin and a bad hot-dog flavor. The other sausages were "meh." I'd say skip the sausages here unless they have a whole plate of weisswurst (but I don't think they do). OK, C-

The sausages were salty, and so was the pork knuckle. It was also fatty and crispy. I think easily the star of the entire meal, but definitely way less good than what you'd get at Frites, for instance. There was less meat than I was expecting; it's about enough food for one person, if you're not sharing. Good, B+

The weinerschnitzel was genuine veal. With the lemon it came together pretty well. Nice and tender. Only about half of it is pictured above, so it's a decent sized piece of meat. Good, B+

I did not like the roast duck. It was really bland, and dry. I'm not the world's biggest duck fan, but I have had good duck and this wasn't it. Poor, D

Somehow we found room for chocolate cake. I probably don't need to tell you this but it was lousy. Hong Kong is just not competent with cake. OK, C-

My favorite thing about KL Beerhall was this.

I'm rather fond of ridiculous things, and this place is indeed ridiculous. They had a live band playing Lionel Ritchie and Cyndi Lauper. Apparently they're going to have a "Cheesee Christmas," which is something I'm pretty sure Santa only brings to naughty boys and girls. And the service is excellent. Worth it, B+
