It was getting late and I was too tired to make dinner. So boyfriend and I went to some where nearby my home for dinner. But I wanted something a bit more healthy. Mr. Fresh Soup seemed to fit that bill. A casual place that serves healthy soup that also comes with a home style Chinese meal.Mr. Fresh Soup is located in Wanchai. Mr. Fresh Soup is located in Wanchai. I've been here a few times after going to the nearby 759 Store to buy things before heading home. I am usually here for take away but boyfriend had never been here so we came to dine in. The place looks more like a cafe inside. Seating is pretty spacious and there wasn't that many people dining. Menu is in English and Chinese. There is no 10% service charge. You order and pay at the cashier and they'll bring the food to you when ready. They also offer sets which include a soup and a hot meal. If you order a set, you can add $5 and get a watercress drink. It was pretty good. Sweet but not too sweet and refreshing. Watercress is apparently rich in anti-oxidents and vitamen K. I had no idea but after reading about it on their menu, I was intrigued. Boyfriend chose the $89 meal set. He chose Black Garlic with Chicken soup. Black garlic is apparently also rich in anti-oxidents. The soup was super black in color. Boyfriend even ate the garlic and it was very strong and sweet.
The chicken meat even became black from the garlic. The soup was very strong in taste but not garlic after taste.
He chose the French Style Stewed Beef Rice as his main. The beef was soft and tender. The sauce had a rich tomato taste.
I chose the $79 set. For my soup, I had the Figs and Apple with Pork Ribs. This is perhaps one my favorite soups. It's sweet with a bit of tartness from the apple. I should note , that no salt is added to the soups as they want you to control the salt content. But they do have sea salt that you can add by yourself. I did add a bit of salt and it was even better.
The apples were cooked for so long, they were soft and sweet.
There was ribs found in it but not meat was attached. I guess they really do use just the bones.
For the main, I had the Steamed Chicken with Jujube and Wolfberry with Rice. The chicken was tender and not too fat. It was nicely flavored. There was a piece of lettuce.
Everything felt very healthy and homestyle. The soup was definitely the star. Rich and flavorful with no MSG detected. Soup is definitely something I'm never sure how to make along with lack of time to do so. Thus, this place is a good option to have something healthy at a reasonable price. It's also close enough to my home for me to return regularly.
