百樂潮州酒家 (English name: Pak Loh Chiu  Chow Restaurant) has been here since the 60s. Serving upper end Chiu Chow cuisine, I've often come here with relatives on many occasions. But as the pandemic continued on, group gatherings stopped occuring. Boyfriend came to Times Square as we were planning to use up some shopping vouchers offered by the mall. We decided to dine in the mall and looked at the many selections we had. We noticed that this place had a number of people waiting. We discovered after 2 PM there was a 15% discount. Thus, we lined up.

The place is quite large with a very classy design. Perfect for a large banquet. They have a dim sum meny along with a la carte. They even had a steaming system for dishes so all dishes were sterlized with boiling water prior to placing them on the table.

There is a tea and snack charge charge of $20 per person. The snack was pickled ginger. There was also a plate of Chiu Chow chili oil provided without asking.

The one thing I love about Chiu Chow food is the Sliced Soyed Goose Meat with Bean Curd ($148 for small size). The goose was wonderfully marinaded. Not too salty but full of flavor. The beancurd the lay on the bottom soaked up all the delicious sauce. There was a plate of white vinegar for dipping.

We ordered some Chiu Chow dim sum items. Dim sum items are offered in twos only. I think that's a good idea considering there is a restriction of two people per table so diners can order more without wasting food.  Something boyfriend and I found while trying to do dim sum on our own without a big group. The thing to order is Steamed Chiu Chow Pork Dumpling with Peanut and Dried Shrimp ($38). Much better than most other places that offer this same thing because this place balances the filling of peanuts with pork and dried shrimp. Most places just stuff it mostly with peanuts. But not here. Just the right amount to give it nuttiness while still tasting the sweetness of the pork and shrimp. The skin was very very sticky but still quite thin.

We shared a bowl of Baby Oyster and Minced Pork Congee ($68). There was a lot of oysters that were all tiny and plump. The broth was very savory.

Pan Fried Chiu Chow Chinese Chives Dumpling ($48) was really good. Though a bit oily as the wrapping and chives really soak up oil. But it was delicious. The whole thing was stuffed with chives and if you love chives, this is a must order. The wrapping was crisp on the top but still remained soft and chewy.

Lastly, we ordered the Pan Fried Crispy E-Fu Noodles Served with Sugar and Vinegar ($108 for small size). For some reason I love ordering this when I'm here. A simple plate of crispy noodles sprinkled with sugar and soaked with black vinegar. Sweet, sour, crispy, soft. All in one bite.

It's a place I come here often. And now to find they offer discounts makes it even better so I'll definitely be taking more advantage of that.
