Caligari of Ginza, Tokyo, now has its first outpost at Entertainment Building, Central, serving award-winning coconut milk curry (Caligari Curry) and premium spice curry. Caligari has been on the top 100 百名店 of the Japanese restaurants guide Tabelog in the past consecutive years and won the "Kanda Curry Grand Prix”. Their curry is said to be cooked using a high-pressure low-temperature technique to maintain freshness and distinctive flavors. With the said accolades under their belt, I came with high expectations. And as anticipated, I walked out disappointed. We ordered Minced Wagyu Croquette and a Prawn Katsu premium spice curry rice. The curry itself has depth and complexity. But both the croquette and prawn katsu were lukewarm when they were served. The stuffing in the croquette was bland and the amount of wagyu and mashed potato was disappointingly little. The prawn Katsu was also tiny. Overall I didn’t find they live up to their reputation and not worth paying $158 for something that Cafe de Carol can do.
