Openrice has always been the main platform for me to search for new food and beyond. Recently, one of my friends told me that he had a positive experience dining at Tomato Special Cafe. Upon looking at the reviews at Openrice, i was skeptical. Reviews were so-so but my friend insisted on asking me to give it a try. Feeling no harm trying, i brought my girlfriend there for dinner. Feeling no harm trying, i brought my girlfriend there for dinner. It was conveniently located just outside Prince Edward MTR exit. It can accomodate around 50 people and was quite evenly spaced.
As the name of the cafe suggests, i thought most of their food was related to tomato but it was not to be. They do offer dinner set ranging from $78 to $138. It consists of garlic bread with soup, main and drinks. Displaying on the wall, they also offer chef special menu for $168. It consists of garlic bread with soup, salad and main.
During my brief conversation with the manager, my expectation of the food slightly increased. He told me that they have just changed the whole kitchen crew 1 month ago. Previously, the food was cooked and served in cha chan teng setting, but now it was more professional in term of western dinner setting. After 30 minutes when we were seated, the place was already full of people.
For a start, i ordered their cider brothers strawberry. This is the first time i tried this brand, as Somersby cider was more commonly found. It was also made in England and freshly brewly made. Alcohol content was only 4%, thus when i first tasted it, it was very refreshing. It was basically strawberry infused with apple flavour. The taste was gasy and sweet.
Cream of mushroom soup with garlic bread - Garlic bread was toasted before serving, thus it was crispy and soft on the outside. Mushroom soup was tasty and i could even see mushroom bits in it.
Fruit salad - There is mango & strawberry slice in it, with some veggies. Fruits were quite sweet and refreshing for a start.
Salmon with beef steak - Beside salmon & beef, there is fried rice too. You can choose either rice, spaghetti or chips. Fried rice was decent, with not much taste in it. Salmon was pretty good, pan grilled to perfection. Meat was smooth and tasty. As for the steak, it retain abit of redness in it. It was tender and juicy.
