It was my friend's birthday, and he had a friend visiting in town so we wanted to go to someplace exciting and Chinese. We also ordered the wok fried cauliflour with pork. This came with chopped green chilis, some dried red chilis, and scallions. It was a pretty straightforward dish, but also pretty good. Nice to have some veggies in the meal.
Steamed Corn & Wheat Buns w/ Dried Vegetables

The picture on the menu for this seemed pretty exciting: steamed corn and wheat buns with mixed dried vegetables. You can get 5 or 10 pieces, and as you can see we got 5. They were similar to other Chinese pocket-style foods, with obviously the star of the show being the preserved and pickled vegetables. They were kind of a little funky. I wouldn't say this is a must-have, but it is relatively interesting.
Fried Preserved Pork and Rice Cake

The birthday boy was convinced by the picture for this: fried preserved pork and rice cake. The "preserved pork" was basically bacon, and the rice cakes were great: crispy exterior, with a tender, chewy, sticky interior. I might say I liked this the best, though I did quite like the bean curd. As with the other dishes with chilis in them, this was reasonably spicy, but not crazy hot.
Fish Head

Finally, we got the classic steamed fish head with two kinds of chilis. I liked it. I thought the fish may have been a tad overdone, but the sauce was very good and everyone loves piles of chilis. I have to say that the fish head at Cafe Hunan was better though.

All in all, it was a pretty great meal. It's not super-easy to get out to this place though, so unless I had some other business in the area, I probably won't come back. There seems to be a branch in Causeway Bay though, so I might give that a go, though nothing about my experience here suggested to me that it was significantly better than Cafe Hunan. That doesn't mean it wasn't good. It was.
