I was on a solo business trip in Hong Kong, after checking my bag in at the airport express in the IFC mall I had some time to kill to grab a quick bite for lunch. After wandering around settled on St. Betty on the second floor. Obviously not having a reservation and the restaurant was quite full I was told I would be on a sharing table at the back of the restaurant, being a solo diner I wasn't that bothered. Looking at the menu I was undecided on what to have so asked my waiter for a recommendation, he suggested the tuna nicoise, I was unsure as my previous experience of this salad was a large bowl of lettuce with some tinned tuna and bad olives scattered on the top! When I mentioned this the waiter assured me theirs was quite different and made with fresh seared tuna, I decided to give it a go and ordered a glass of Sauvignon blanc while i waited ($98) Within ten minutes my salad arrived, two large pieces of dark red tuna with pepper round the outside and array of beautifully prepared and presented vegetables, what I assumed was puréed black olive( was later informed it was called tapenade?) quails eggs and some nicely buttery potatoes. I didn't realize that this is what this dish is supposed to be and thoroughly enjoyed it, it all seemed to work together and was a nice size for the quick lunch I wanted. I left very happy and thanked my waiter for the recommendation and after looking at the dinner menu I will definitely come back for dinner when return to Hong Kong!
