While the Chairman may not have been the most magnanimous leader, the restaurant with his moniker, treats you with culinary kindness. Elegant, with old school service, our poor language skills and cultural ignorance were treated with sensitive care, and the Chairman restaurant made us feel welcome. Our first snafu was with the wine, cocktails are not served, as the wine list and what is on offer do not jibe. It was rather awkward as the server brought out every bottle of white wine they had to the table. I am sorry to have forced him to do this. The second awkward moment arrived with my useless attempt with chopsticks, which compelled the server to rush over with a fork and knife. I am sorry for this too.
Beyond my boorishness, the food was fantastic! This kitchen does wonders. Our fried crab appetizer was scrumptious. The spareribs were so good we gnawed on the bone like rabid dogs. No Chinese restaurant in the States I've tried could match the Chairman's trio of fried rice. Everything was absolutely delicious. This was a great restaurant.
If we could avoid wine, the bill is quite reasonable. We paid $200 US dollars for a meal that we could not finish, being too full, with a $65 dollar bottle of wine. Next time, I'll skip the wine and drink tea. I'll be back.
