My sister came back with her Italian husband for vacation in late September and then we had a full week of food tasting and gatherings. On their last day in Hong Kong, we went to Ah Yat for dim sum lunch which turned out to be the best pick in their whole trip.
What my sister missed most was the steamed creamy custard bun here. The buns were tender and soft with a centre of fluid custard inside, perfectly well done.

My aunt and my dad were very elderly. To them, Ah Yat is all about abalone. So my aunt’s must try was the baked abalone puff while my dad’s, the braised goose web in abalone sauce. The abalone on the puff was tender while the puff was crispy. But the abalone tends to fall off from the puff that you can never have them in one bite. My aunt liked it though.

The braised goose web was thoroughly braised carrying the intense flavor of the abalone sauce.

We also tried some of the special dishes rarely found in other restaurants such as the steamed pomelo peel with fish maw.  It always takes a professional to get rid of the bitterness of the pomelo peel so we will never make it at home. The pomelo peel was steamed soft while retaining its freshness and texture.

Among all dishes, the deep-fried taro dumplings were not as good as others.  The inside was not kept hot and the coating was not as light and crispy as it should be.

My brother-in-law was quiet throughout, though not forgetting eating.  He must be feeling blue about it being the last day of his vacation as he always does. Next time when they are back, we'll come here on their first day instead. Welcome home!
