When I first came to Hong Kong, my foodie cousin took me here as my first introduction to the weird foodie culture that Hong Kong is. It was pretty amazing. The whole alley looked like you were in Japan. And you could order anything that was Japanese. At least what I knew of Japanese food at the time. I had not returned again.

Flash foward present time. My friend booked a table for dinner here on Christmas Day. I was taken back to the past as I walked into the restaurant. My other friends remarked they had not come here for a long time as well. So, we quickly ordered our favorites from this place.

Apologies for the color of the photos. The restaurant lighting was red and I really tried my best to white balance it to no avail.

While waiting for the food, we were told that as it was Christmas, we could help ourselves to Christmas turkey with gravy. Good thing it was free because it was not only dry but the gravy tasted like stuff from a powder gravy pack.

Rose salmon sushi. The sushi was huge and with big pieces of salmon. However, the salmon was not great and the rice was hard as a rock.

Grilled squid was the only thing of the night that tasted good. It was soft and not fishy tasting.

Crab congee is another popular item from this place. The congee wasn't rich in crab flavor. The crab meat was at least fresh.

Did quality decrease? Or did I gain a better knowledge of Japanese food since moving away  from Canada to know that this was pretty bad Japanese? Whatever the case, it wasn't good. Yes, portions were huge and not expensive at all. But I can get better Japanese at Sen-Ryo. And that's pretty sad. Won't return. Unless I'm with that same friend as he loves it so much he has a VIP card that got us a discount.
