It was about a year ago that I got invited to the opening of Maison Eric Kayser Artisan Boulanger Café on Caine Road. We were each given a $200 voucher, so I decided to use it up with my sister before it expires. One side of the cafe is where you can grab bread and one side is where you sit if you decide to order some sandwiches or coffee. The environment is okay, but the hygiene worries me because the bread just sits there with nothing covering it, and I saw several flies flying around. Service:
Service was okay. The staff were all friendly and smiley.
Taste & Value:
I remember having some good sandwiches at the tasting event, with one of them being "Le Caprese" ($88), which I ordered. This sandwich is tomato and buffalo mozzarella between an olive ciabatta with pesto sauce. The pesto sauce was nice and the ingredients were fresh, but I don't like olives and olives was all that I could taste at times so it was less appealing. However, the bun was a good bun. My sister had originally wanted the chicken caesar sandwich, but it sounded so plain so I convinced her to order something else. At last, she got Le Steak & Cheese ($118). Both of us were careless in reading the description of the sandwich, as both of us were expecting sliced beef although it had said beef patty on the menu. Again, the bread was good and the sald was freshm but the patty was not very good. It was very fatty. Grease was dripping in running down my arm the whole time. I didn't even want to finish my half. I am glad that I got a Hot Latte ($32) to get rid of the taste of grease in my mouth. This latte had no latte art and the milk foam was a bit thick, but overall not too bad tasting. Final Verdict:
Both my sister and I were very disapointed in their food. I'm glad all I had to pay for was the coffee, as the food really was quite awful. If I go again, it would only be for the bread, and that is if I don't see flies lingering around.
