Komeda Coffee is a coffee shop from Nagoya that has been around since 1968. And this is their first branch in Hong Kong! When we're in Nagoya, it was one of my favourite breakfast spots! Boyfriend and I decided to take his mother here for lunch.The menu is in Chinese and Japanese. You order by scanning a QR code where English is available. What they offer is exactly what is available on their Japanese menu. You can also do add ons after ordering a main. You can customize a lot of things like if you order less ice, you really only get one cube, much to boyfriend's delight. You can also buy their products to go as well.
If you order a main, coffee can be added for $20. All coffee except special drinks. This is the cafe au lait and it was ok. Very Japanese as it was smooth and went down well.
I had the special drink which was the Coffee Milkshake ($55). Served in a cute container, it was pretty good. A nice light coffee taste and wasn't super icy.
Every coffee purchase comes with a small bag of their signature peanuts. Interesting they would pair salty nutty snack with coffee but they were good none the less.
We shared our food. The first was the Miso Katsu ($75) and you can request to have to cut into so many pieces by the QR code ordering form. This was really good. The fried pork was still juicy and didn't need to chew much. The coating was crisp. The bread was soft and sweet. But the best? The miso sauce. So fantastic. A little salty but lots of umami.
The Curry Spaghetti ($78) came with a side of shredded lettuce and their special dressing which tasted like Thousand Island but less tart. The curry was a bit spicy but not too strong yet it does stay with you. It also was extremely fragrant as well. There was a slice of buttered toast.
Finally we shared a Mini Ice and Fire ($58). A buttery Danish bread with milk soft serve and strwberries with strawberry syrup. The ice cream was alreayd melting but it was a rich milk taste. The strawberries were a bit sour. Loved the buttery bread as it was soft and sweet.
Food was a bit more sloppy looking like the one in Japan but it still tasted just as good. Hopefully will open more locations or I'll just have to come back here.
