French guy living in Hong Kong for a month, I wanted to show some good restaurants to my aunt and her husband who just arrived here for the holidays. For their first night here they wanted to eat japanese food.

Looking for a japanese restaurant, I found an article from lifestyleasia.com praising that restaurant.

I was really looking forward to that, so I booked 3 seats at the sushi comptoir for 8 p.m.

Arrived in time, got seated, the restaurant looked nice, so I was thinking "what a good choice did I make". Never have I been so wrong.

For starters we ordered 3 types of sushis per person (one piece of sushi is between 80 and 150HKD). A bit pricey but the chef was very good. Advised for some Tuna Belly, Snappers and something else. The taste was very very good.

Just one thing concerning that, eventhough there was a free counter in front of us, the chef prepared the sushi a bit far away, we couldn't see the preparation (sorry instagram and snapchat, no videos
 )

But overall, the sushi part was good.

Now, let's talk seriously.

What went wrong?

First, I ordered a glass of Chablis. 10 minutes later, they come back telling me that they were out of Chablis by the glass, and if I wanted a glass from a white wine that you could only take by the bottle. Well, why not? If they propose.. 5 minutes later, they come back telling me that, in fact, they can't sell by the glass. Uh? okay then don't propose. Then the person comes back with half a bottle of wine asking me if I'd be interested by taking a 50cl bottle of white wine. I say no, I'll take a coke. What a surprise 10 minutes later she comes back with my glass of Chablis?!!!! [Yeah that whole scene took approximately 25minutes for one glass of wine, so you can guess what happened next].

Secondly, while ordering our sushis, we also oredered hot dishes, I think that was teppanyaki. I took some Sirloin steak (350gr was more like 200gr at most), my aunt wanted some eel, and her husband some japanese prawn.

It took 45minutes for our first dish to arrive (the prawn), I don't know if it was good I didn't ask.

Then 10minutes after the prawn arrived, I asked someone where was the rest of our dishes. They, then, gave me something I didn't ask for, which I didn't want. After some wait time, I asked again where were our dishes. (if you read correctly, my aunt still didn't receive her eel).

First I asked the tea lady, then she did bring her superior, and the superior called for the manager. So I asked 3 different people for our dishes. Guess what? I think it entered by one ear and exit by the other, because I still had to wait for 20minutes for my steak to arrived.

It was medium rare eventhough I asked for rare, but it was still good.

Meanwhile, my aunt didn't receive her eel which she canceled.

So yeah, she only ate her 3 sushis.

TL;DR: So yeah arrived at 8pm leaved at 10pm. Lots and lots of waiting. Food quality was correct if you ever receive your dish eventhough a bit pricey. The service is horrible. They don't try to find a solution, they do nothing. Considering that this restaurant is high end (courses start at 1000HKD) they could find the personnel that goes with it.

Thumbs up for our sushi chef, who was always apologizing because our dishes weren't coming. He even offered a glass of wine. And was the only professional person in the restaurant.

Needless to say, I won't come here anymore. And I really am ashamed to have bring my aunt here for her first day in Hong Kong.
