HK style western food was always my childhood favourite, so it is always nice to go back to these old school places once in awhile for nostalgic "comfort" food. This evevning I went for the traditional sizzling steak set which also included soup, dessert and drink. Soup (russian borscht)The Russian borscht was the best I have had in recent months. Soup (russian borscht)
The Russian borscht was the best I have had in recent months. It had generous amount of tomato paste and vegetables, which brought in a rich but sweet taste. Main (sizzling steak)
The presentation was excellent - the sauce was poured onto the iron plate just as it was served and the sizzling sound and steam added to the fun. Was a bit disappointed on the steak itself as it was a little tough, although the taste was ok. Dessert (baked pudding)
The dessert of the day was a baked pudding, which looked more interesing than the usual fruit jelly. But it was too sugary my for taste. Drink (lemon tea)
It was a small cup of lemon tea with 2 slices of lemon.
Extra Dessert (souffle)
The souffle is supposed to be Tai Ping Koon's signature dish, but for whatever reason I had never tried it in previous occasions. As this time we had 4 adults I decided to order one to try. The waiter warned that it would take 30 mins so we ordered when we were near the end of our main courses, but it look over 45 mins to arrive. It was huge as expected, but the wow factor was gone after our long wait. And to my diappointment, the souffle was too runny - it was more like tasting a sugar and egg mixture. May be it's just their style?
Other Info. :
Would like to compliment the waiters who were mostly friendly and attentive. We had a toddler with us and they were tolerant of the mess and our various requests. When we were leaving we left a few belongings behind (including my phone!) which they quickly found and returned to us.
