Have you been to Granville Island in Canada before? The restaurant and bar was opened using a very Canadian name, and of course selling tons of Canadian booze that can recall your memories. Once you step into the restaurant located on High Street on SYP, just 2 mins walk from the MTR exit, you may see a display of some very rare picks of beer, from Canada or other countries. Do you need to protein up? At the end of the restaurant, you can teach yourself what different part of the produce is call

Do not miss out on the blackboard hanging on the other side of the restaurant, featuring some of the seasonal recommended dishes. We did pick a few out of this blackboard instead of their regular a la carte menu!

After spending quite some studying their drink menu, I have decided to go with my favourite kind of beer, porter! We have picked all Granville Island beer because the restaurant specially imported this very common beer in Canada yet very rare in Hong Kong. And I am sure you can only find these GI beer at Granville Island!

Granville Island Chocolate Porter

Improted directly from Vancouver, the very limited supply Granville Porter was extremely chcolate-y with a smooth texture and a sweet aftertaste. The 6.5% Vol porter definitley tasted a lot lighter than it looked.

You can tell the size was a lot taller than usual which means we were lucky because we just didn't want it to be finished!

Granville Island literally has all kind of beer you fancy, from pale ale, IPA, to stout, mostly sourced from overseas and you may only enjoy them here!

Granville Island Barley Wine

A very unique beer which was brewed in a wooden wine berrel, just like grape wine, yet tasted like beer, not any beer but my another favourite kind of beer.

The bottle was even sealed with wax and you have to open it with a knife first. The taste was a bit more complex with a mix of caramel, vanilla and oak flavour. This 11% Vol beer was almost as strong as wine, and you may even cellar it for up to 5 years!

Kokanee

You would know what this is if you have ever been to Canada. I was told that it is all college students' favourite. Have you tried it before? Is this place recalling enough good old times yet?

That's not it! Granville Island also serves scrumptious food menu with in-season ingredients and they keep refreshing their menu from time to time. We can't just drink without eating anything so we have decided to go for a few of their signature dishes!

Classic Caesar Salad

Made with romain lettuce, garlic, crispy bacon, parmesan, croutons, and of course chicken. Not like any other caesar salad, their chicken was not dry at all! They used daily marinated tender chicken thighs to go with all the fresh lettuce.

Besides, the restaurant also uses freshly blended anchovy to make their own sauce as a seasoning of this salad. The savouriness from the intense anchovy perfectly balanced with the crispy lettuce as well as the garden taste chicken pieces!

Our first dish already gave us a pretty good impression and I can't wait for more!

Fresh Clam with Lemon Butter Sauce

The pot of clams were cooked with aromatic lemon butter sauce, served with some crispy garlic bread on the side. The clams were bought fresh daily from the market after each piece was carefully selected to maintain the quality. If one clam has gone bad, the whole pot of clams can go bad as well. Therefore, fresh ingredients is far and foremost a must!

Each piece of clam was very meaty, juicy and pumped. The size was very generous and the sauce brought out the freshness from this shellfish, complimenting this classic seafood dish nicely.

Roasted Free Range Chicken (Half)

First of all, and once again, fresh ingredient is the key. This roasted chicken was probably one of the juicies, tenderest chicken I have ever had. The moist and succulent white meat was wrapped around with a thin sheet of crispy skin marinated with mixed herbs and savoury spices.

We were told that a well controlled big oven with high fan were all it took for this amazingly delicious free range chicken. The size was generous which was just right to share among  2-3 people.

Black Truffle Pasta

One of the highlight from the restaurant is that they uses only Omega-9 oil or olive oil, to promot healthier eating.

The linguine was cooked to just al-dente with a slight chewiness to it. The truffle flavour was strong and prominent, yet won't be too overpowering the eggie taste from the pasta. The amont of cream was just right, making it a less creamy and saucey pasta dish with each string of linquine coated with the delicate sauce.

Not only our dinner was finished beautifully with deliciuos food and chilled beer, but also friendly staff who could really have a great chat with you and your friends.

The vibe goes on till late. If you happened to walk pass the neighbourhood, you may just drop by at the bar for a few drinks or small bites, or a full dining experience filled with cold beer and food with a big heart.
