let's forget about its hilarious name for a second - it's a bakery with a solid variety of baked goods of the "western-style HK" genre.my 4th visit here after a nice dinner in tai hang on saturday night:loaf-size green tea chocolate cream cheese bread ($11 half/ $22 whole): it has a semi-crunchy, semi-soft crust on the top and is dome shaped. my 4th visit here after a nice dinner in tai hang on saturday night:
loaf-size green tea chocolate cream cheese bread ($11 half/ $22 whole): it has a semi-crunchy, semi-soft crust on the top and is dome shaped. (like the ugly dome bread at starbucks, but about 2x bigger) the bread itself is a form of art - the chocolate and green tea dough blends together, forming layers of the two flavors. the filling is very soft and a bit spongy, with a mild cream cheese taste. it is dryish and slightly grainy, a bit like japanese-style cheesecake. the crust is a bit like the ones on pineapple buns texture-wise but not overly sweet. i dig it!
small green tea red bean bread ($3.5) have tried the bigger version and prefer that but it was late when i came in and this was the only size available. SMALL, BUT PERFECTLY FORMED!! there's a cutesy cream cheese filling on top (tastes the same as the filling in the aforementioned bread), and i LOVE the pungent green tea flavor of the dough. and the dough is sooo incredibly soft with good form!! the adzuki bean paste is surprisingly flavorful, somehow it tastes much more "red bean" than usual! and i love how the paste is not a smooth, fine ground - you can actually taste the real beans and the skin!! need to buy it in bulk next time!
blueberry cake ($5) a teeny little cube the size of a tennis ball. the flavor alone is good, and the sweetness is just about right, but it was too sticky to my liking - the whole cake was very moist, the texture was a bit like rum-soaked christmas cake, but a lot softer. enjoyed the blueberry jam in the middle the most. bites of blueberry seeds in it - love the "wholesome-ness", not artificial blueberry flavored gel. but I don't like this cake much.
only tried the 3 this time. wanted to get the soymilk cake but it wasn't on the shelf. must visit again soon!
also the cashier lady was very friendly. she actually thanked me for my purchase and said goodbye!
