I arrived at Goldfinch Restaurant with good expectations, since my older brother who grew up in HK used to come here often with my parents back in the 80s - yes, 30 yrs ago... I ordered from their set lunch which included a soup and bread (cream of corn and chicken), steak with fries and veggies, coffee, and ice cream. In total, the meal costs $102 HKD = appx. $13 USD. $13 USD. So, first the bread arrives and instead of the bread rolls that I saw in the previous reviews, I got one slice of toast.. which wasn't bad..... it's just a slice of white bread. The soup came next, and it was slightly salty but alright.. unfortunately, the few strands of chicken in the soup were really rough and chewy. Next the steak came.. which I don't really think they used a cut of meat that was supposed to be used for steak. The steak was really small, I would say about 2 inch by 2 inch by 1/2 inch. The toughness of the "steak" wasn't bad. It was alright but because it wasn't the cut of meat that was supposed to be used for steak, i felt like it had an odd taste. The veggies seemed like they were defrosted frozen carrots, peas, and corn. The fries also didn't seem like they were made from fresh potatoes either.. The coffee and icecream were good, i don't think they could mess this up! The meal reminded me of public elementary school food... and unfortunately I don't think the food was worth 102 HKD, maybe half of that cost at most. I could get better food with 102 HKD/$13 USD in HK and in US. I feel like either the chef just gave up.. or it is just severely overpriced.

The waitresses were kind of sneaky too. When we checked our bill and they added the food + 10% tip, rounded to the higher end, but they didn't write down that they added the 10% tip on the bill!! Be sure to add your bill yourself if you decide to come here!
