To promote a new salt and sugar reduction (RSS) dietary culture and living style to the people of Hong Kong, the Environment and Ecology Bureau, the Committee on Reduction of Salt and Sugar in Food and the Centre for Food Safety of the Food and Environmental Hygiene Department have launched the "Less-Salt-and-Sugar Restaurants Scheme" ("Scheme"). Restaurants participated in the Scheme will offer less salt or sugar options to the consumer or even tailor-make less salt or sugar dishes in designated restaurants. Participating restaurants will be granted with the Scheme Labels for displaying in the premises for public identification. 4 of us came for lunch today after I had quite an enjoyable dim sum here last Sunday. One of the dishes today was ribs and winter melon soup and after having eaten a couple of bowls already, I found a cockroach in the soup! This was bad enough but on closer inspection, another one emerged! We reported this to the waiters and the manager who all made apologetic and sympathetic noises but not much else. To add insult to injury, I had to remind them to deduct the cost of the dish from the final bil

We have reported this to the food and hygiene department and hope they will act to make sure others won’t have the same delightful experience!
