It was my pleasure to join a private 80-year old birthday party, especially all expenses were paid by the host. I was worry about the MSG in Chinese food. Surprisingly it was better than I thought. Still MSG was there; luckily it was still in my manageable level. I would like to recommend it for everyone if you love authentic Chinese food in a fare price. Its comfortable atmosphere is quite difficult to find in a regular and busy Chinese restaurant like this (not compared it to a hotel because a hotel could be better but a hotel is different entity and class). Totally there were 12 people including all friends and relatives. The room was reserved a week ago.

In the following, I will go through every dish with you so that you'll know what exactly were being served. It was a pre-set menu by the Victoria Harbour restaurant called Celebrating Birthday (賀壽宴) and the cost per table was HK$3988 including 10 sodas no service charge. And this price will be valid till September 30, 2012.

喜慶金豬滿華堂: Most Chinese love to eat the pork rind but I prefer the meat. It was very lean and the pork seemed right out from the grill. It was one of the best meat I've ever had. But I didn't eat the rind.

古法瓦罉雞煲: Shark Fin & Chicken Soap is one of popular soups being served in Chinese occasions. But I can't tell how special it was. It is just a regular Chinese soup to me. According to the menu, it was cooked in an ancient slow cooker. How different from a regular slow cooker? Anyone knows?

清蒸八頭南非鮑: The abalones are pound eight head from South Africa. Not bad!

蠔皇花菇扣黃肉參: Unlike all others, I don't find myself liking this Dried Chinese Mushroom & Sea Cucumber with Oyster Sauce. The sea cucumber was tasteless due to not soaked long enough with the sauce.

大壽桃一打: The buns are very good. There are 12 in total, 6 custard and 6 lotus seed paste. I love the custard one. Everyone was quite full at the time this dish was served. Thus I could pick a few leftovers home.

海港醬燒雞: Roast Chicken with Special Sauce by Victoria Harbour Restaurant was good and worth to try.

Stir-fried rice and noodle along with fruit were served for closing. The rice was special; it was red rice. But the fruit was bad, not fresh.

Overall, I really like the comfortable and specious environment besides the delicious dishes. But it is inconvenient to get there. The only public transportation are either bus or min-bus, besides taxi.

If you have a special occasion, you would like to have some place quiet in spacious environment and you prefer Chinese type of catering, I would recommend Victoria Harbour to be one of your considerations.
