Escorted a friend back to Whampoa - and nostalgia set in. Escorted a friend back to Whampoa - and nostalgia set in. Too early for a drink at the Waterfront thus went for coffee and cake at the Corner Cafe.
Ordered the very reasonable tea set and chose a white chocolate cheesecake - which I used to love in my school days. Perhaps I did loose my sweet tooth along the years, or maybe I have honed it to a point above usual hotel patisserie -- anyhow the lumps of cream and the excessive sweetness of the white chocolate sent tingling shivers down my spine. The hard cookie had a hint of cinnamon that added to the sense of near-staleness. The mocha, thankfully, was satisfactory.
The staff were delivering quality service and were admirable for their effort, but were at times overwhelmed by the demands of tourists (yes, not being pejorative, but mainly mainlanders). Gone was the tranquility, the quiet solitude I used to enjoy in this hotel. Perhaps not the best idea to relive memories - one often taints them instead.
All that aside, good value-for-money tea set - if you're not as picky as I am.
