I just find out about that Open Rice is now in English so i am taking the opportunity now to write all the reviews i should have written long before. I have been 5 years in HK and went to many places around and found some hidden jewels and some simply bad restaurants.Apparently newly opened Grappa at TST is to include in the bad experiences one.1pm, a friday while the street in busy and Knutford Terrace packed, Grappa is simply empty. Apparently newly opened Grappa at TST is to include in the bad experiences one.
1pm, a friday while the street in busy and Knutford Terrace packed, Grappa is simply empty. Only a half dozen of tables are taken.
The door is wide opened and the temperature inside is close to outside temperature.
My friend and me are brought in a corner of the restaurant.
The set lunch is a choice of 4 starters : 1 soup, 1 chicken salad, 1 caesar salad (spelled cesare salad which let wonder if it is a mispelling or a subtle way to make it sound Italian) and the last i forgot. 5 main courses : 1 pork chop, 1 salmon pasta, 1 sausage polenta and the rest i forgot.
I ordered the Chicken salad and the sausage, my friend ordered the Caesar salad and the pork chop.
The Caesar was nothing special and the chicken salad was just so-so with the chicken being very soggy, it seemed that the chicken was left overnight soaking in cream and water.
Sausages were alright and the Polenta too. For the pork chop my friend didn't have much comment to do. We skipped the dessert.
Good : Nothing
Bad : Bread basket included 3 1/2 slices of black bread, which taste good and 3 slices of old and soft hard to chew not well cut piece of frecnh bread. The service was unfriendly. The waitress came to ask us if we wanted coffee in the middle of the main course, which was already annoying, but they brought us directly the 2 coffees while we were still eating. We asked them to take back the 2 coffees and at least to wait that we are finished to eat. After to clear our plates when we were both finished, the waitress did it in 2 steps. First she took my plate, left and went to another table to clear a plate. Then she went back to the other table, cleared a plate and came to our table to clear the second plate. I just didn't understand the logic behind that. Finally the brought us the coffee and to our surprise, it was freshly made coffee, at least they had the decency to do not bring us back the coffees we sent back.
For the bill, it was $268. We both gave $150 and asked half half, in return we got a yes sir but after we got $20 + $10 + $2 back instead to have $16 + $16.
Last thing, as soon as a table is finished, they reset on top on the used table cloth, so the new guests get the stained table cloth and for them, they use for the lunch a minimum of tables and do not have to reset many tables for the dinner period. Our tablecloth was over stained from the people who just had their lunch before us.
Overall So-so food and bad service. I wonder why they do not put more effort on their lunch as the people that they got for lunch are most likely to come back for dinner in the same area as there is not office towers around, so it is more neighbor that use the restaurants.
