I have cared much more about my health these days so I started to improve it by dining as the first step. In order to perform the vegetarian food dining idea which is to add vegetarian elements little by little in daily diet, I visited a vegetarian restaurant in Tai Hang called Veggie spinner.(素食微調) It is easily accessible as it is quite close to the landmark, say Victoria Park and Central Library. If you try to get there by subway, it also locates at a walkable distance of Tin Hau subway statio
The restaurant is not so spacious that it can accommodate not more than 10 people. In that case, people sit closer to each other as well as the kitchen, which means the customers can chat freely with the chef or the staff there. From what I have seen, the atmosphere there was quite warm and cozy. For the interior design, it is fully decorated in natural mood, such as wooden chairs, a large pot of wheatgrass and some wooden blackboards.
About the food, they sell vegetarian food and organic food in 4 main types: Salad Platter, veggie burger, Lavash Roll and some healthy beverages. You can see some salad in large glass bowls with various kinds of seeds and sprouts in the fridge right at the front of the door. They look so fresh and colourful that grasp not only my attention, but also that of many passers-by to this restaurant!
This time, I tried a veggie burger combo ($73) which has a veggie burger, mix green salad, roasted potato wedges and homemade ketchup. The veggie burger is made of Halloumi Cheese, Organic Tofu, Portobello Mushroom, Roasted veggie and Mix green.
Overall, it tastes quite good. Both of the texture and the taste do not have much difference from a real hamburger. Though the bread looks a bit plain, it is super appetizing after one bite! The texture of it is very soft and the taste of wheat is so rich. For the organic Tofu, I feel like eating a rubber when I chewed it. It is kind of strange but interesting at the same time. True though it is, it still tastes good.
However, if you have a voracious appetite, Veggie Spinner may not be your best choice. The portion is not big enough since it is even smaller than a McDonald’s combo that you may not feel full from it given all are veggie but somehow it charges much higher. It would be better if they offer more food or simply charge less for the veggie combo.
Other Info. :
“On Diet” may be a universal topic amongst girls. Another table of ladies and the boss shared their views on how to keep fit. One of the staff even told me her successful weight losing case from consuming more vegetarian food and doing exercises of Jeon Da Yeong (Korean Diet Queen) for a few months. All the people seemed to have a big group chat on it. The boss is really helpful and friendly as she would not kick you out when more customers come in but keep chatting with you. What a wonderful night with nice people.
