Enmaru Izakaya is one of many restaurants found in Times Square. Serving Japanese food, it features a binchotan charcoal grill where they grill fish. I was curious so I went to give it a try during lunch time. The restaurant is huge that is for sure. I ordered the Enmaru Izakaya deluxe set ($198). This came with three kinds of sashimi, grilled fish, potato salad, salted squid, chawanmushi, simmered beef offal, miso soup and rice. It was served in an incredibly large round tray that was rather difficult to eat the tiny dishes found within.

The simmered beef offal was delicious. Packed with flavor, the beef  was moist an literally melted away. The egg was a bit dry though.

The sashimi was thickly cut and very fresh.

It came with a piece of grilled salmon. Cooked perfectly, it was lightly seasoned with a bit of salt.

The salted squid was definitely salty. They weren't kidding. This went great with the rice.

Miso soup was ok. Nothing extraordinary about it.

The chawanmushi was a bit of a disappointment. A bit overcooked, it wasn't as silky smooth as expected. Though it had a nice taste of dashi.

The potato salad was in a cute jar. But I think it was over done with the huge amounts of whole grain mustard.

Overall, the lunch set was quite good and very filling indeed. Seating was spacious even though I had the bar table. Beautifully designed restaurant. Service wasn't very attentive. Tea was never refilled even when asked. I had to wave for attention as well. Probably due to it being so big. It was also extremely noisy. I'm unsure if customers talked extremely loudly here or the sound just traveled. I don't know. But it was so noisy, I couldn't have a nice quiet lunch. I think for that reason, I really doubt I'd be back but I wouldn't mind as a place to return with friends.
