Chez Shibata is a cute little cafe on Stanley Street just at the beginning of the mid-level escalators. It's one of those hidden little places that I must have walked past hundreds of times but never realised. It was the perfect location for a catch-up with my friend on Saturday. The seating area was spacious and not too crowded and provided a nice environment without having to go up to mid-levels in the heat. What we ordered:1. Signature Chez Shibata Cheesecake2. What we ordered:
1. Signature Chez Shibata Cheesecake
2. Maple Mont Blanc
3. Americano coffee
The interior decor and layout is soft and japanese-like. The tables are big and not too close together so you can have your privacy during your meal/conversation.
There was a selection of beautiful cakes. The selection was quite large with small cake options as well as larger ones that are good for birthdays.

The coffee was brought over very quickly. We did not have to wait at all. The cakes are all beautifully presented and as you can see here, very photogenic. There was not one flaw - similar to the cake shops that you see in Tokyo.

The cheese cake was my favourite. I was so surprised about how well balanced this cake was! Not too sweet but also not bland. The cheese cake was mixed well and had an airy yet creamy texture. The raspberries on the top were super fresh! The base is buttery with a nutty after taste. This cake complimented our coffees very well.

Similar to the cheese cake the Maple Mont Blanc was beautifully presented. Although the whole dessert is very creamy, it was airy and not overbearing. The little cubes are maple biscuits which added a nice touch to break the creaminess of the dessert. Even the inside was made with precision. I would have preferred if there was more of a maple or chestnut taste.

The coffee was a good temperature. Not too acidic and not too bitter for the sweet dessert. This complimented the cheese cake very well. I think Chez Shibata is a nice place to go for a catch-up or a nice place to relax and get some peace and quiet on your own. It's great that it although it the restaurant is so close to the main streets of Central, it still provides a little sanctuary for some peace and quiet... and cakes of course!
