Despite the negative comment below, I think Craft Steak does offer good steak at a reasonable price. I was invited to a dinner there on Sunday and there are 7 of us. The restaurant is a bit small and so as the table, the environment is ok, quiet enough, but casual. I guess this is the usual type of restaurant at SOHO. Let's cut it short, I had an ARGENTINA GRILLED CHORIZO to start with, it has two large whole sausage lying on the plate with a Saukernaut mixed Arugula Salad, and a small cup of herb sauce. Four out of the seven of us picked this dish as the starter. The CHORIZO is tasty but nothing really surprise, since it is something that cannot go wrong unless it is not properly cooked. I personally thinks it is a bit too heavy, however if you do like strong taste dishes and don't mind the fat and a little spicy, I would strongly recommend this dish.
I ordered a nU.S Prime Sirloin (11oz), I had medium rare, that is normally what I have for Sirloin, and for Prime Rib and Rib-EYE, I normally have Medium. You can choose a sauce on the side, there are quite a few ones, but I am sorry fellow diners, I cannot remember them at all. I picked mushroom sauce.
Here it comes the steak, it is served on a hot pan, however, it was less burning hot than I thought. The steak was cooked finely, crispy on the surface and warm inside, quite juicy and does have the usual chewy of a Sirloin, has a little cup of mushroom sauce on the side. A friend of mine ordered a Bone in Rib Eye (25oz), it was huge. I might try that next time.
I am personally a big fan of steak and I think the steak that I have here is definitely medium-high standard. To compare with BLT steak (Which I think they are quite similiar in terms of price and quality), I think the one I have in Craft is slightly better, may be due to the reason that when I visited BLT, it was just opened. We also ordered a couple other side dishes to share, Sauteed mushroom with garlic, Macaroni & Cheese, Fries. They are all pretty good, especially the sauteed mushroom.
I think 11oz Sirloin is a relatively small steak and to be very frank, it is much easier for a chef to handle and cook accordingly than a 16oz Sirloin, I guess that set a difference between a good steak house and an excellent steak house. But anyways, for what we have and what Craftsteak offered, I think it's already justified as a satisfying steakhouse.
Regarding the service standard, I think it is not as bad as what other diners commented below, however, I don't ignore the possibility that what I experienced was an exception.
I will definitely come back again with my family because especially my father, he really loves U.S Steak.
