Last Tuesday night, we decided to check out WAKARAN in Wan Chai, a restaurant that had been generating plenty of buzz across social media. With all the hype, we were curious to see if it would live up to our expectations, and we’re happy to say that, it absolutely delivered. We kicked things off with some appetisers, which set the tone for the meal beautifully. We kicked things off with some appetisers, which set the tone for the meal beautifully. The Golden Prawn with Black Truffle Salted Egg was rich and delectable, while the Truffle Sesame Doughnut stuffed with Comté Cheese was a savoury little bite of heaven. The Spicy Diced Salmon Maki Taco with Sriracha Mayo added a fiery kick and ended up being the highlight of the starters.

For mains, the selection we chose was absolutely brilliant. The Wagyu Beef Char Siu was a revelation, tender as wagyu should be, but tasting like traditional Char Siu with a subtle sweetness from the Manuka Honey. The Typhoon Shelter Local Lobster Thermidor was decadently creamy, with the uni cream adding a deep flavor to complement the lobster. The Whole Roasted Dry-Aged “Ma Yau” had crispy skin and tender with a natural taste, while the Ox Tongue Millefeuille with Pickled Radish stood out for its unique texture and refreshing flavour combination. The Whole Smoked Pigeon is a dish that we would happily re-order again, tender and smoky, rounded it all off beautifully.

Desserts brought a theatrical close to the meal. The Ginger Rice Bomb Dumplings were as playful as they were delicious, and the Banana Yogurt Burger that served in a quirky takeaway burger box, was whimsical and packed with flavor, while the whiskey caramel drizzle inside was the perfect finishing touch.
From creative starters to the show-stopping mains and whimsical desserts, every dish indeed leaves a lasting impression, and we will defo be back!
