First heard of this place from a colleague who had tried it and was quite impressed with the food. I didn't realise how close it was to my home, so i was really happy to learn that a local western type cafe was near my home as its very hard to find somewhere which sells decent Western grub. The first time i tried this place was a few weeks back. I ordered the "quiche" (bacon and cheese) set with came with a coffee. The first time i tried this place was a few weeks back. I ordered the "quiche" (bacon and cheese) set with came with a coffee.
The taste wasn't bad at all, but the portion was just so small (suitable for Victoria Beckham dieting types only!) the quiche came with a spoonful (literally a small spoonful!) of coleslaw and a small helping of side salad.
The coffee was a little tasteless which was quite disappointing as the advertising was " fair trade" coffee which seemed quite appealing so to receive a tasteless coffee from "Guatemala" was disappointing to say the least.
As the mains didn't fill me up, i decided to go for dessert (could have been the ploy to get me to buy more! by giving less!) and i went for the apple pie. Have to say, the apple pie was delicious and i wasn't disappointed at all! They are a little stingy with the cream (which told by the guy there, who i am assuming is the owner, is the closet to "fresh cream" they can get) not disappointing but again, small with the portion.
I have been back to "The Shortbread Company" as i was impressed with their grub but u can't be feeling too hungry.
Its a little bit pricey but worth it when you are really craving some western grub.
Could do a lot better.
