The fact that Tai Tai Pie Pies (TTPP) opened up an outlet at Great supermarket in Pacific Place brought smiles to many downtown dwellers like me. No longer have I got to wait for fairs and farmer's markets to get hold of TTPP's delicious and substantial pies and other baked goods. And I can have my pie fix almost any time of the day (as long as the supermarket is open) without having to wait for the pie to be delivered to my door.(I can't wait to share my excitement so sorry for not adding the
(I can't wait to share my excitement so sorry for not adding the Great outlet as a separate entity here...)
This time round I had this idea of giving a pie (they do American pies not British ones) to bid farewell to an expat friend. And although she's not American I thought an All-American Apple Pie, TTPP's signature item, would fit the purpose. And these was the bonus of putting your own customized message, cut out in pie crust, on the pie for free!
You make the order for your customized pie 2 days in advance, but can buy ready-to-eat whole 9.5" apple pies, or pecan pies (another must-eat American pie!) from Great.
The other day I went to Great to place the order of the "messaged" pie, and just couldn't resist the temptation of trying out one of the many mini "bite" pies on display. So I got this Wholly Heavens Chocolate Sin Pecan Bite ($12.5).
This dainty version of TTPP's Wholly Heavens Pecan Pie is given an uplifting twist by adding dark chocolate to the filling. The crunchy yet gooey filling is a great match with the buttery pecan biscuit crust and the dark chocolate gives just the right hint of bitter-sweetness that you won't fill overloaded.
Anyway on the day I went back to Great to pick up the pie I ordered. The lady who helped me with the ordering in the first place was as helpful as ever and got me the pie as soon as she saw me.
The pie came in a sturdy cardboard box complete with a glass pie dish (see picture above) for reheating in the oven at 150 oC for 15-20 minutes.
Our dear friend and everyone else loved it. Next time if you got something to say, say it with a pie, go to TTPP and you'll be pleasantly surprised!
