今次黎係因為一本旅遊書所介紹,我好鍾意舊香港既味道,所以尊誠黎呢道試試...一入去,我就好開心...見到童年時既肚池餅..裝修係舊式的,待應都係舊式制服,假如唔係有一位金頭髮既WAITER,真係好有時光倒流感覺呀同老公一齊嗌個蛋撻,老實講,用一般黎形容真係客氣左,因為我覺得餅皮唔夠鬆脆,唔夠香,蛋冇蛋味,又實....食完野去TOILET洗洗手,HAHA比個TOILET FAKE左,唔識開,跟住係一位岩岩男廁出黎既男顧客教我開門,HAHA至於點開,我唔開估住,大家去一去幫襯,再玩下佢個TOILET丫野食雖然唔太好,但環境真係唔錯,我會再黎都只因為個環境

野食雖然唔太好,但環境真係唔錯,我會再黎都只因為個環境

今次兩個人下午5點幾去,叫了兩個餐當晚飯(1)雙蛋燒排骨反+凍茶少甜 $44+$3茶味不錯燒排骨水平幾高有肉汁,無雪味,肉質又「淋」(2)茶餐+華田 $42-雞批+綠豆蓉忌簾湯雞批很香,湯底就一般-香蕉pancakecake底厚身,很滿足兩個人食得十分飽!不過,六時後結帳要加一,有D搵笨同埋D位幾迫!

又到喜喜冰室到食野,喱次唔係入到去食,而係buy佢出面既熱狗食呀,主要係佢既熱狗有點特別,個底冇窿同冇開邊既,食落好方便,唔會漏到周圍都係,同幾好味呀~!有部機專係為整喱款熱狗而設既,有3支,不過見到好似只係會用一支整呀~!拮落去(唔到底),個包中間有個窿(烘熱梗),之後加腸,青瓜同蘿蔔(竟然用),再加大量既蛋醬(好正呀),之後再吱沙律醬~!熱狗,個底冇窿又冇開邊,有點似腸仔包,XD~!有大量蛋醬同沙律醬之下食落好好味,加上個包又夠軟,個腸同青瓜and蘿蔔都夾到味呀,幾 fresh既feel la,唔錯呀~!

之前已經堂食過她出名的雞批浮台, pancake...兩者都覺得好好味尤其是果pancake, 很鬆軟...今日路過突然想食佢既雞批 & 紙包蛋糕..去到原來已經紙包蛋糕已經唔再出, 改為卷蛋..唯有只外買一件雞批..上次見到的肥肥地, 很有笑容的女收銀不見了..換了一位年青的姐姐仔..聽到我話只買一件雞批, 個臉即刻"黑", 跟住用不耐煩的語氣跟旁邊水吧的哥哥仔說:一件雞批外賣..個位哥哥仔拿起放在桌上的黑色膠手套 (像人棄置的一團菜的放在桌子上), 載起然後從暖櫃取一個雞批出來..取開果焗兜, 換上紙兜, 問題係哥哥仔近距離用個口吹過紙兜...嘩差d觸到個鼻當堂無晒胃口..柑既衛生情況..+服務態度..沒有再光顧的理由...回到家唯有再用焗爐焗一焗...今回再試, 餡少了味道很淡...

喜喜我都成日黎,次次食完都唔願打食評,因為懶而且又好似無咩好寫。不過今次我要掟起心肝寫一寫因為佢既食物的質素真係唔錯。上次見雜誌介紹佢的西多士,賣相超吸引,真係一試難忘。佢的西多士係煎而唔係炸,而且兩片麵包夾得緊,唔似其他快餐廳個d過淋,中間又有個洞,加上蛋漿內加入橙汁,無咁肥膩,食的時候當然唔少得糖漿啦,好好味呀。今次我試左個黑白多士,見到食評有我先識得叫,黑色其他係芝麻醬,白色就係煉奶,兩隻醬我都鐘意食不過效果無西多士咁震撼,都ok既。B仔鴛鴦又係貪得意想試,其實係好立克+阿華田,面頭放上一粒棉花糖,感覺有趣,不過有d甜。雞脾沙律係我常食的item,雞脾因為經過隔夜風乾的關係,收哂水,炸起上黎d皮可以好脆,而且腌得夠味,正呀。下次記得要試下佢個熱狗,賣$12,相比起其他食物的售價算平喇。

Ordered: Set: Chicken pie in Pea soup (雞批浮台 ) + banana pancake (合桃香蕉Pancake) with ice milk tea.
Set - Breakfast set - includes toast with egg and ham, spaghetti with roast pork and a ice coffee

Taste: Chicken pie in pea soup looked really nice in the plate. I have never had pea soup before and was not expecting it to be nice but to my surprise, it was creamy and acceptable. It really made me felt I was eating a mouthful of peas, and it goes well with the chicken pie crust itself. The chicken pie crust is crispy and not soggy at all even it has been soaked in the soup. The crust tastes sweet and buttery. The meat inside is nice and creamy. I liked how they have soup with the pie, usually having the pie on its own is quite boring, but with the soup it tastes erotic. For this dish i will give it a 5 star, it was the dish that i came for and it did not disappoint me.

Banana Pancake with walnuts in syrup looked really attractive, nicely put together. With layers of pancake and banana topped up with toasted walnuts. The walnuts really added a taste to the pancake, as the pancake n banana are both soft tasting food, walnuts on other hand was crunchy. The pancake was thick in texture, it really fills you up, but after a while the syrup got abit too sweet for me. But this dish really surprised me on how well it was put together.

I had quite high hopes for the Toast with egg and ham omelet, and it did not disappoint me. The egg was not overcooked, was still creamy an runny with a lovely buttery taste. It taste better than alot of other 'old' hk cafe. the ham is average.
However, the roast pork with spaghetti in soup was a surprise. usually they give ham with macaroni with soup in other cafe and it is so bland. Salty clear soup. But with the spaghetti here, is not just in salty water, but actually in a chicken stock soup and the roast pork was nice.

The only complaints are the ice tea and ice coffee. they were very watery and tasteless. I think they could do abit of improvements on that as Milk tea and Milk coffeee is very important as part of the HK cafe meals!

ps: I love their uniform, it is those old school grey top!!! I love their immick!

Honestly we were quite pleased with this new-style bing-sutt, even though its slightly out of reach. Upon stepping inside we were in love already! After being seated to a mini booth we studied the menu, and decided on the following...

We picked two items to share, one being their signature meal set of chicken pie in pea soup with pancakes ($38) which comes with a drink - we ordered 'B Jai Yin Yang' for an extra $5. The other item was a very normal beef and tomato rice (, just to be safe!

The chicken pie in pea soup was a little strange for us, but not bad at all. We agreed we would've preferred eating them separately, and I shall bare that in mind for next time! Here at Matchbox the chicken pie is a Hong Kong-style pie, being made with a sweet shortcrust pastry crust and only a little filling of chicken breast in white sauce with mixed vegetables. The crust was in no way soggy despite being served in the soup, and was quite rich, but good. The pea soup proved to be better than I thought. Green peas are probably one of my most hated vegetables, and this soup in no way resembled the boring old pea. It was flavoured with lots of ginger and puréed, so it was a hearty and healthy contrast to the pie.

Pancakes came with a light caramel flavoured sauce and chopped bananas. The pancakes were warm when served, and nicely browned on both sides and soft on the inside. The caramel sauce is not your typical caramel sauce, this one being lightened by the addition of (corn) starch, which also makes it less-sweet! Although some might think they aren't being genuine, serving 'fake' caramel and all, it is actually the preferred taste of many Chinese people who don't like their sweets too sweet any way! Of course it would've been better if served later, but then again we should have told them to - this is a cha chaan teng after all.

Beef and tomato on rice ($42) was good as well. Whilst the rice could've been better, the beef was soft but not too much so as a result of tenderizing ingredients (yes, baking soda), and the tomatoes were chopped small enough before being fried so they cooked thoroughly and softened easily, rather than being semi-raw big chunks which I got from Tsui Wah recently. Also in here were button mushrooms, and the main character - the tomato sauce, was not overly acidic and not too sweet either, a wonderful balance!

Today my girlfriend and I decided to have breakfast somewhere in Causeway Bay. She, having grown up away from local Hong Kong street culture, pretty had the palette of a tourist. Today my girlfriend and I decided to have breakfast somewhere in Causeway Bay. She, having grown up away from local Hong Kong street culture, pretty had the palette of a tourist. So, as part of my little project to show her what Hong Kong food really means, I took her to a revamped 冰室 in Causeway.

I have to admit, I've read about The Match Box all over Openrice and the newspaper, but never had the chance to visit it. I certainly was skeptical of the restaurant, especially since modernized versions of those traditional Hong Kong restaurants (Cha Chaan Teng and Dai Pai Dong especially) seem to lack that aura (or l'air) that makes them so worthwhile and special.

Anyways, we got to The Match Box, and the first thing we noticed was the setting. From the waiters' uniform to the vintage posters on the wall, from the tiled floor to the wooden seats, it all screamed '1960s'. Of course, there was a bit of a G.O.D. feel to it all, but it was pleasant nonetheless.

We ordered the 'special set' (特餐) and the 'tea set' (茶餐) to share. The tea set consisted of a drink, char siu spaghetti in soup, a ham omelet and toast. It was good, but nothing special, to be honest.

Now we turn to the special set, which consisted of a drink, chicken pot pie in pea soup (雞批浮台), and banana pancakes (香蕉克戟). Sensational.

We tasted the banana pancakes first. There were two small pancakes stacked on top of each other, each one a bit thicker than you would expect, lathered with a gorgeous caramel sauce that hinted of walnuts and corn syrup. Topped with toasted walnuts and pan fried bananas, it was a wow-er. As far as my memory goes, this has to be the best pancake I've had in Hong Kong. The consistency was stunning, and the meshing of the flavors just asks me to come back next Sunday morning.

Then there was the chicken pie, which had a wonderful crust. The pea soup itself lacked flavor, and was sadly made only from frozen peas, but its texture was a fabulous compliment to the robust flavors of the chicken pot pie. Marry the mushy pie crust with the thick green soup, and you got another winner.

You want a complaint? The 奶茶 that we had was runny and the ice melted way too quickly for our liking. The other set, the tea set, was good, but, as I said, of no particularly surprising quality.

All in all, even if you're a skeptic for new-age Hong Kong food, check out the Match Box. I certainly enjoyed my time (no, it was not only because my gorgeous girlfriend was there), and I'll be sure to come back for more.

黎過食呢間野2次第一次服務及食物都好好叫左個常餐多士又脆又香意粉又彈牙炸雞脾沙律雞脾超大隻仲外脆內嫩, 但咸左d沙律超好食第二次只係叫左個軟雪糕因為睇雜誌話部雪糕機成10萬銀真係想試下同ok便利店用一樣ge港產雪糕漿(唔記得維記定牛奶公司la)會有咩唔同發現真係軟棉棉得多, 但送到埋黎已經溶溶地, 算la個cone又唔多脆 找錢 比左個好殘既銀仔比我我要求換過一個, 因為我層經試過收到個好殘既銀仔好多店舖都唔收, 連氣水機都check唔到果個係咩銀個收銀態度好差lo.......話2蚊唔係錢ar我話: 有d地方唔肯收收銀: 咁咪入巴士law (好串好輕佻咁講)佢仲要係一名後生女, 真係估唔到佢比個咁既反應比我(我冇為左個兩蚊同佢嘈law)坦白講我真係唔答巴士ga, 就算答巴士都用八達通la亦正正我重視呢"2蚊"我先要換你既然覺得個銀仔冇問題用得到, 點解咁唔願意換呢 ?都唔知收銀果個係咪王親國戚, 態度差成咁 !

個人比較鍾意懷舊野, 經朋友介紹, 就去呢到試下~ around 4:30p.m, 好多人 , 等左arounfd 5 mins, 都幾快~ 不過就要搭木台~ anyway~ 一坐底, 就有staff同我地講得2個set, 係得呢2個set有drink, 咁都冇所謂啦~ 就散叫吧~ 不過佢d餐牌係係張木台入埋, 分4面咁放, 所以就咁坐係到真係好難睇, 根本可以係話睇唔到~ 所以就上網睇下openrice有咩好介紹, 最叫左個西多士, HOTDOG & 雞批~ OVERALL都幾好食, 不過要講下既就係個雞批, 真係好好食, 個皮係COOKIES皮, 有少少似菠蘿包味, 入口好鬆化~ 不過如果大口少少就會住個口~ 不過SO FAR所有野都唔錯, 不過如果下次去, 我就只會外賣個雞批~

在朋友強力推薦下今天終於試左喜喜冰室了。只有一個餐有雞批浮台,就點那個茶餐吧!個Set 包括雞批浮台、合桃香蕉Pancake 及 奶茶。雞批浮台既青豆湯非常「青豆」,用料十足,絕無欺場。雞批跟青豆湯更是意料之外咁match。 雞批外皮酥脆鬆軟,雞肉粒分量亦足,相當不錯。試雞批浮台之前總覺得把雞批放進湯裡有點怪怪、格格不入的感覺。吃過後不禁佩服始創者的膽量跟創意﹗合桃香蕉Pancake OK好食,只是雞批浮台+Pancake 這個組合真的有點膩﹗喜喜冰室既有她獨創的食物款色,支持原創和想試新野的不妨一試吧。
