Lunch menu 價錢好reasonable ... 頭盤+pasta $118-138 , 加$10包飮品,杯cappuccino 好香濃郁,再加$25 仲有是日甜品 ... 咁情調及質素加咁嘅價錢,喺金鐘中環一定搵唔到 ... 
走時見到Happy hour餐牌,$55 up 包小食及飲品 ... 好過去Starbucks !!

'Food Street' was part of my very happy childhood memories.  I can still remember how excited I was to come to this part of Causeway Bay with my mother and sister in the 80s: yummy dinners, shopping in the lengendary Daimaru (all those Japanese goodies in their supermarket and toy section), that fountain with colorful lightings...  I don't know if I am missing this neighborhood or in fact I am missing that part of my life.Lately this area is re-gaining it's old glory. Lately this area is re-gaining it's old glory. Changing some boring restaurants and shops to some exciting dining destinations: the never-ending-queue of Simplylife and Burger-room, good Aisan noodles in Ming & Kok, and the newly opened Spanish tapas place 'elborn'.

This small cosy restaurnant has newly opened in 'Fashion Walk' (no idea why they changed to this stupid name) 2 motnhs ago.  Their sister restaurant, Mesa 15, is one of my top lunch-choices in Central: great food quality, good value for money. 

Came with a bunch of freinds on a Monday evening looking for a tapas feast with lots of alcohol and laughs.

Nice cosy decor with a little terrace outside - alfresco dining is a gem in Causeway Bay.  That eveing was too hot otherwise we would have sat outside.

Gralic chili prawns - a classic tapas with excelletn execution.  Prawns were fresh and frim, sauce was fantastic - you must order some bread to finsih it.

Octopus & pancetta paella - the hi-light of the dinner!  Rice was perfectly cooked and I could taste the ocean!!!!  Octopus was soft, the only issue was the pancetta was too fatty otherwise it would be a perfect paella!  Taste excatly the same as Mesa 15, with almost half price.

With loads of foods plus countless beers, wines and sangria, we paid HK$400/head.  Definitely good value for money.  

Fianlly, there is a nice tapas place in Causeway Bay.

因為啲Portion太細,我哋諗住叫多兩個小食,我地今次醒叫之前都有問佢究竟有幾多條春卷,佢話有三條再切一半即係總共六嚿,最後都我哋再決定要叫嗰陣佢更正話得兩條切一半即係四嚿。

Looking for a leisurely lunch on this wet wintry afternoon and chose this recently opened Spanish resteraunt.We were given one menu, and on asking for a second, as there were two of us, were told that there were only five menus available. This is in a resteraunt with seats for 25!We ordered the mixed seafood and chicken paella for two which arrived promptly. The presentation was on first sight quite shocking as this dish was covered in a sweet sticky mayonnaise, and the rice was a disconcerting

We were given one menu, and on asking for a second, as there were two of us, were told that there were only five menus available. This is in a resteraunt with seats for 25!
We ordered the mixed seafood and chicken paella for two which arrived promptly. The presentation was on first sight quite shocking as this dish was covered in a sweet sticky mayonnaise, and the rice was a disconcerting grey. Every piece of seafood and chicken was covered with this mayo, and I guess the dish had never seen any saffron judging by it's colour. Never before, and I hope never again, have I seen a paella presented like this. The mayo dominated the dish, and after a bit the oil from it separated into the rice to form an oily slick at the bottom of the dish.
My guest could not finish a mouthful, and ordered the chips with spicy ketchup and aoli. This was much better, well cooked and crisp chips with decent sauce.
Once the ghastly memory of that paella has faded we will go back and try the tapas, which, if of the same standard as the chips, should be good.
Please Elborn management, send your chefs to Spain to see how a proper paella is cooked.(Hint-it does not include mayonaise)

The interior of this new joint looks more or less the same as Numero 15 but has added a little more "industrial chic" to the mix.

I tried calling this place up one night in advance to secure a table but was distinctly told by the lady that they have a no-reservation policy here (only walk-ins). So when I stepped in here at 6pm, I was surprised to see all these empty tables with "Reserved" signs on them. Perhaps these reservations are for close friends, business partners etc. which are not open to the general public? I guess I would never find out.

After going thru the menu a number of times, we still had a little trouble deciding what to order so we had our server over to get his 2 cents' advice. I first asked about the crab meat spring roll to see if it's Asian style. Fair enough question I thought. But obviously he knew very little about his own menu (or perhaps he's not keen to serve us) so he decided to dodge my question. "Well, it's a very good one. Very tasty." he said.

Well, that didn't answer my question, did it? So I asked the very same question again. He kinda danced around the question again so instead of further testing my patience, I decided I would just order something else.

The batter was very bland and so was the calamari itself. A touch of salt or spice would have done this dish some justice. Not a very good start.

I had this dish on a number of occasions in Numero 15 and it used to be one of my preferred starter there. This one was definitely not as good as Numero 15's but it's OK.

5-spice crispy wings ($55)

It's perhaps my own fault of ordering 3 deep fried snacks. Of course, if I were visiting a good restaurant with an attentive server, perhaps just perhaps he or she might remind me of such mistake but it wasn't the case here.

Anyways, the batter here was very thick making the texture a little dissatifying. Out of the 5 spices whatever they were, I could only taste spicy and nothing else. This dish just didn't work for me at all.

Prawns and Iberico pancetta linguini ($155)

This was the dish that prompted me to stop eating and went straight for the bill.

The taste was way too heavy and there was a very strong flavor of garlic but nothing more. On top of that, where was the Iberico pancetta? So we called the same male server who had taken our order over and asked him this very same question. I was polite in engaging him in the conversation but what I got was three words "Already in there!" (落左啦!). The tone was arrogant, despised and impatient (He just doesn't fucxxng care! Just don't bother him. That's how I interpreted it.). If he were working for Australia Dairy Company or a local cha chaan teng (traditional tea restaurant), that would have pretty much worked but the last time I checked, this is supposed to be a decent restaurant.

Of course if it was some 5 years ago, I would've asked to speak with his manager but as I've gotten older and wiser, I knew I would never ever visit this restaurant in my life again so I shared his same attitude (who cares!). Let's get the bill and get the heck out of here.

But getting back to my earlier question - could it be the fault of the kitchen missing out on a particular ingredient? Well, I guess I would never find out.

I felt sorry for our male server. Obviously he was in the wrong business and he should seriously reconsider his career in the hospitality industry because this kinda of attitude and EQ would get himself nowhere.

I've often said that I was blessed to be living in Hong Kong where good food is never in short supply but this for one, was an outlier. And we all know about the imminent fate of restaurants with the combination of poor food (according to my taste buds) and horrible service.
