They have their own sake called the Yardbird sake which is quite good but pricey as it is a very small bottle. I highly recommend the Meatballs, it comes with this sauce that has a raw egg it is excellent my favorite thing on the menu. I have had a chance to try almost their whole menu as the menu is not that big. The concept is yakitori. They only serve chicken skewers, all parts of the chicken. The chicken skin fried rice is also a must try!
I don't usually eat chicken skin but this was delish! The KFC (Kimchi Fried Cauliflower) is another must try, it's not spicy but has a bit of a tangy sauce and deep fried.

Yardbird has become one of my new favorite restaurants and will definitely be coming back more.

The name is a literal translation of "Iwatori" in Japanese where Iwa means Yard and Tori is Bird. 10 years in Japan has spoiled my palette with some fascinating yakitori(grilled chicken) so when i heard about the hype of the restaurant my expectations were high. My feedback on the restaurant

AMBIANCE: Simple which works well for a yakitori restaurant. The music is bit loud so difficult to make conversation.
FOOD: The meat quality was very good. Some signature dishes such as corn tempura and ceaser salad had very good Japanese flavor and the marination for grilled chicken was close to perfect. However certain very simple yet important details were missing. For e.g. the sauce was too much for the egg yolk for tsukune (minced meat) skewer, miso soup had too strong flavor and too much green leaves etc. The portion size was very small as well.
PRICE: I thought that the prices were too high. It was more expensive than some of the best yakitori places in Japan. Prices of drinks such umeshu (110$), miso soup(55$) and each skewer (around 38-40$) is extremely high.

Overall, i was quite happy with the food and thought that it was one of the better japanese restaurants. It is definitely one of the best yakitori places I've been to in HK. Would consider going back if my wallet allows me to.

Eat well as life is too short to eat shitty food

Yardbird reminds me of a typical trendy joint that can be found in Los Angeles. The vibe is modern and trendy, but very laid back. Informed us that they do not take reservations, and that your entire dinner party must be present in order to be seated. While waiting for our table, we decided to get a few appetizers- edamame (standard), house sake (cute packaging) and the famed and celebrated dish of KFC (Korean Fried Cauliflower) which was delicious. Honestly the batter on the outside was light and cripsy and not too thick, with a hint of sweet and spicy notes similar to gochujang (korean spicy paste). I felt like it was laced with crack!

After a few bottles of house sake ($200 each) we finally got seated and started off with cold cucumbers in peanut sauce (very refreshing).

Other highlights of the evening:

*Chicken Breast skewer- super tender
*Chicken Meatballs- amazing! Delicious
*Chicken Wings- tender and juicy however a bit small

Yes, the portions are small, and the price is a bit high... however I believe that the quality is outstanding. The service is top notch and it made a guy like me not feel so homesick anymore. Bravo Yardbird. I am a fan and will be back!

I haven't been this excited about a restaurant since Sushi Sase first opened on Hollywood road. Except, this time, I revisited Yardbird TWO nights in a row.. and plan to go again next week! YES.. that's just how Good it is.

A chic little restaurant ground level on Bridges street, YARDBIRD gave me an "out of HK" experience the minute I stepped into the restaurant. The place was hip and packed with good-looking youngsters (including the staff), not advisable for the elderly or people who do not like to be in a noisy environment.

Before you visit Yardbird, here are some important facts to note down:

1) They do not take reservations.

2) They will not seat you until your WHOLE party has arrived - just like in New York!

3) They open at 6pm so that would be a great time to go as they are more flexible with the tables. Otherwise expect to sit at the bar or stand around it during busy hours.

** I LOVE the drinks selection at Yardbird. The chardonnay they serve by the glass is from Spain and is fantastic! They also have a good range of cocktails and shochu (funky flavour infusions too!). If you are a fan of Hitachino nest beer, you would be delighted to find a whole range of them.

Now on to the food... here are my FAVOURITES *

- Okra soba (one of their specials)

- Corn tempura balls ( a must ORDER!)

- Chicken meatball with egg yolk ( love the grilled flavour .. delish!)

- Fried korean style cauliflower (if you like kimchi you'd like this!)

- KFC friend chicken ( if you're a sucker for fried food)

- Seared yellowtail salad ( one of my FAVOURITES on the menu.. * light and healthy)

- Chicken oyster yakitori * (note that it is not a real oyster, just the best part of the chicken thigh)

- Mochi rice sticks ( I am def. not a mochi fan but THIS was something else! Crispy &* tasty.. a must order for mochi Lovers!)

- Crispy chicken skin with egg rice ( this was just INCREDIBLE *)

- CURRY SAUCE.. got a side of this to go with my rice but at Yardbird they actually do a SHORT RIB JAPANESE CURRY. this was Drool-worthy AMAZING.

* Yardbird does lots of different parts of yakitori chicken .. chicken heart, liver, neck, gizzard .. you name it!

*** Must say YARDBIRD is the ONLY place in HK where I would actually eat chicken skin .. let alone a Crispy version of it! Yardbird just does fried chicken skin the RIGHT WAY!

At the moment, Yardbird only serves Peanut butter icecream for dessert, but i must say it is the LIGHTEST icecream I've ever tasted in HK. Almost like mousse ... would like to see more japanese influenced desserts on the menu. Overall, a great start as Yardbird has only been opened for 6 weeks! * The head chef Matt is also extremely nice and cute!

* The bathrooms are extremely very clean &* nicely designed. Only one person can go in at the time. Perfect for OCD people! *

YARDBIRD is definitely my new favourite place in town, I'm really looking forward to trying the rest of the dishes on the menu and would recommend any food lovers to check it out... but remember... you must go early coz the place fills up QUICK! ;)

Didn't have any expectations going into Yardbird b/c first time I went was late-night for drinks (though we ended up snacking too). I'm a yakitori fanatic and can honestly say that I don't eat yakitori outside of causeway bay/tai hang area b/c there's nothing worth going to. I was really happy to find that Yardbird has great yakitori. Pretty standard selection (by Tokyo standards, that is) of chicken yakitori (including chicken tail and neck, not easy to find in HK). I usually tend towards chicken skin, chicken soft bone, and chicken wings, but I was pleasantly surprised to find the chicken meat (breast?) was as tasty as everything else. It had a nice smoky flavor so I guess I can eat that there too. I tried probably half of the items on the yakitori menu (salt only) and everything was consistent. If you're like me and spend most of your meals in Japan at yakitori or izakaya, then you'll be really satisfied with this place. Wouldn't mind a larger selection like beef tongue etc...but again I think they're doing a more traditional Japanese-style selection.

Yakitori aside, really stand-out dishes were the Sweet Corn Tempura, Fried Chicken and Korean Fried Cauliflower. Best fried chicken I've had in Central (better than Magnolia and Blue Smoke, though I love both of those too) and would definitely go back just for that. Prices for yakitori are higher than I'd like, but the food and the environment is pretty special so what can you do.

The one weird thing (at least the two times I went) was that everyone in the place was really attractive...felt a bit surreal to be honest, like you're in Soho NYC rather than Soho HK. Maybe because everyone is really tall and look like they stepped out of a benetton ad. But they're friendly and service is great and genuine, so no complaints. The upstairs is really nice for hanging out and drinking/snacking izakaya-style with nice sake and eventually infused shochu. Downstairs feels a bit small. Decor is warm, love the chairs and little details like the drink sign that reminds me of the Lower East Side in NYC. I'm enjoying it while it's still not too crowded...who knows after the summer. Like the fact that they don't take reservations and don't add the normal 10% service charge automatically...again feels like a genuine place.
