I love French cuisine. I never really did until I went to France on vacation one year and I fell in love with the country. The food was amazing yet beautifully presented. Food was love and love is what most people associate with France.

I noticed a new restaurant had opened up in IFC called Ivy. It features not your regular French that everyone knows and loves in Hong Kong but from the French Riveria. French Riveria serves a cuisine that is very different that usual French in that they use more seafood and olive oil as opposed to butter that is more loved in French cooking. In retrospect, it is more like what you would find in Mediterranean cuisine where olive oil, tomatoes and goat cheese is more popular. That is what you would expect from French Riveria.

Boyfriend and I came one evening for a quiet dinner. Restaurant is spacious with a view of Victoria Harbor. This is a very romantic type of restaurant. Great for date nights.

Menu is in English only. They have a very extensive wine menu.

Tomato and Lemon Appetizer. This was the appetizer that appeared before us. Every table gets on upon ordering some sort of food. You sprinkle a bit of sea salt on the tomato and eat it as is. I love tomatoes and eat them regularly in a raw state like this. So, I was very used to eating it whole like the fruit it is categorized as. The tomatoes were sweet and firm. The addition of salt was not really neccessary but ok if you like adding salt to everything.

Bread Basket. The bread basket had an interesting assortment of various baked goodies such as bagetttes and brioches. I liked the brioche the most as it was nice and buttery. Bread was kept warm in a white paper bag. All were good moping up sauce material.

Tuna Carpaccio ($188). This was sprinkled with a mango salsa and topped with rocket lettuce. The tuna was lightly grilled. Combined with the mango salsa, it was a very fresh tasing appetizer.

Burrata and Tomatoes ($198). This is something I had in Italy so was a bit surprising to see it served in a French restaurant. Burrata is basically fresh mozzarella placed in a bag with cream and curd. When the pouch of goodness is cut open, this creamy, rich, stringy cheese is spilled forth. This dish was lovely. It was complemented with the really excellent tomatoes, fresh rocket lettuce and olive oil. This was what made me eat so much bread as it went very well with it. The burrata had a wonderful texture. I loved this dish.

Bouillabaisse ($448). This is a very traditional southern French dish that is basically a fish stew. I had this when I was Montpellier made by the mother of a French friend of mine and loved it. This was a bit more fancier than the one made by a loving mother. A very decent size that is good enough to share between two people. There was half a lobster, a good number of mussels and shrimp and a varied assortment of random fish such as John Dory and sea bass. It came with a few slices of toasted baguette for dipping the wonderful sweet juices found at the bottom of the pot. The seafood was fresh and tasty. The lobster was fresh lobster and not frozen as I found several places in Hong Kong serve frozen Boston lobster in their meals. But this place was fresh lobster. There was a small dish of butter that was infused with garlic.

Walnut Crepes ($148). We finished it with dessert and decided on crepes. This is very different than the ones found in Normandy as those are made with buckwheat flour. These were lighter and olive oil was used instead. It was topped with fresh figs and toasted walnuts and a lovely fruity sauce that made this a very light and not heavy dessert. It wasn't overly sweet. A nice finish to the meal.

A very shareable place as every item was enough for two people. Service was excellent and attentive as any fine dining establishment should be. The waiter brought us wet towels when we were eating the bouillabaisse without asking and replaced them with new ones when they saw they were used. Plates were cleared on a timely manner. A lovely place for a special night out.
