After just taking a final exam, a group of classmates and I decided to venture here for a meal before heading home. It was almost 9pm, and the workers were nice enough to move around tables to allow all 12 of us to sit together (there was a sectioned-off area to the right of the restaurant that they opened up for us). This restaurant is in a quiet neighborhood (at least it was on a Monday night, not sure about other days of the week).I ended up sharing a 2-person set with another person.2 Person
I ended up sharing a 2-person set with another person.
2 Person Special Set B ($198) included:
(1) Salmon Sashimi (4pcs)
The salmon seemed pretty fresh, but overall average.
(2) Hamachi Sushi (2pcs)
This tasted like any other hamachi sushi. I will, however, comment on the rice -- I absolutely HATE it when it tastes like the rice has been sitting there for ages and turns hard. This rice was the complete opposite.
(3) Japanese Scallop Sushi (2pcs)
I usually don't eat scallop sushi, but this was a pleasant surprise.
(4) Vegetable Salad
A combination of lettuce, some other leafy greens, tomatoes and some corn kernels sprinkled on top. The dressing they used was overpowering and a little bit on the sour side.
(5) Assorted Tempura
This was mainly shrimp and sweet potato tempura. The tempura batter was bland and it was evident that the dipping sauce was from concentrate.
(6) Deep Fried Tofu or Japanese Fried Vegetables
We opted for the tofu here.
The tofu was served soaking in a bowl of sauce that was similar to the tempura dipping sauce. Not sure how long it was sitting there, but as a result, the tofu was soggy and the deep fried exterior wasn't that appetizing.
(7) Teriyaki Chicken Udon
They allowed us to substitute the teriyaki chicken udon with any other udon on their menu (of equal value, or add the difference to the total if it was more). We went with the pork cutlet udon, which turned out to be rather disappointing. Don't get me wrong -- the udon itself was delicious. The soup was just right, and the udon cooked just enough where there was still a bite to it without being soggy. The pork cutlet was served on the side -- it was a little bit tough and the outside fried coating was soggy.
(8) Ice Cream (Green Tea/Sesame/Sweet Potato/Red Bean) (2pcs)
I stuck to the regular green tea flavor and it turned out to be average. Couldn't really taste the 'tea' flavor in the ice cream, though.
Like(s):
- We had no trouble catching the attention of servers to take our orders or get the check, and overall, they were friendly
Dislike(s):
- The server bringing food to our table (different from the one that took our order) was practically throwing the bowls/plates onto our table. There were several times I thought udon was going to fly into my face.
