Growing up in Canada, my grandfather would mail me comics of Old Master Q from Hong Kong. As a child, I really couldn't read one word of this comic so I just made up the stories. Growing up in Canada, my grandfather would mail me comics of Old Master Q from Hong Kong. As a child, I really couldn't read one word of this comic so I just made up the stories. I renamed all the characters as I didn't know their names. I thought I was the only one. But as I found out from other friends I met along the way who also grew up outside Hong Kong, they also had a fondness for Old Master Q. They, too, like me, made up the stories as they couldn't read a word of it. Renaming all the characters just as I did. And their children did, too.

Recently, a  theme restaurant featuring Old Master Q opened in Prince Edward. It was designed by G.O.D. and  Iwas eager to go. This was my childhood growing up in a world where there were no Chinese people other than this old man in the comic. This, comic, to me was what Hong Kong was. So, I begged boyfriend to take me and we went for lunch.

Upon entering the restaurant, we were greeted with the old master.

The inside of the restaurant was beautiful! Everything looked like you had stepped into a comic. Every chair, every wall and ceiling had images from the comic. Even the washroom! The waiters all wore the checkered pants that the characters wore and the aprons were Old Master Q's three white dots vest!

Interesting that they had a warning that if you stole any of the silverware, you'll be charged. I guess people have been pocketing the stuff.

What does the restaurant serve? Well, basically cha chan teng items. Prices weren't cheap. This probably explains why the place was fairly empty. Everyone there looked like it was their first time as they ordered food and walked around taking photos much like I did. With prices like this, I can understand no repeat customers. They didn't even offer sets for cost saving.

Old Master Q Sandwich ($68).  The basic club sandwich. It was fairly good. The bread was toasty warm and crispy. The ham was not too salty. All complimented with cheese and crunchy lettuce.

Swiss Wings ($68). The Swiss wings were moist and not overcooked. The sauce was a nice mix of savory and sweet. It was pretty good.

The food was tasty but for cha chan teng items, it was pretty expensive. Chicken wings really shouldn't cost that much. Especially as they are located with a lot of cha chan tengs around that are cheaper in price. However, I guess you are paying for the atmosphere. For that I give this a smiley as it's not very value for money. But this is probably the best theme restaurant I've ever been to in Hong Kong. Well, thought out to every little detail.  It captured the essence of the comic.
