A long early flight and less than decent inflight meal, set my appetite for a night of rich comfort food and good brew. A well mannered waitress led me to a casually set table, the atmosphere felt like a tavern apart from the installation of very large barrels with dining tables set in them.
I flipped a substantial drinks menu, decided to start with a Bitburger 0.5l draught Pilsner before continuing my food order. The pint of pilsner arrived promptly with a n inch of resiliant head foam. The beer is a refreshing golden medium body, gentle maltiness with a prominent hop note and long finish, a good liquid appetizer.
... a nicely plated "Deep fried Camembert cheese served with wild berry sauce. " really satisfied the cheese lover in me, as the crispy batter releases the lovely aroma of soft camembert nicely balanced by the citrusy-sweet wild berry sauce with fresh herby greens on the side to set the palate for a large bowl of thickly diced Caesar Salad which was served next. I was very impressed by the crunchy mouth feel and texture of this salad, the uncommon selection of lettuce with a very pleasant hint of bitter which balances deliciously with a perfectly prepared dressing which generously coats a each piece of diced green.
By then i was really looking forward to the Oxtail Rissoto. The pulled oxtail was tender and juicy with the nicely contrasting al dente rissoto, a pleasant transition from crispiness to fluffiness of each grain beautifully coated with tomato based gravy.
Finishing the main course swiftly, a lovely presentation of a pleasantly mellow Lemon Tart baked with marshmallow on top contributing to a toasty caremel-ish aroma served with a scoop of rum-and-rasins and chopped strawberries and thin slice of lemon zest. Completing the quest for a hearty comfort meal.
