Summary: Free-flow taco brunch with my favorite tacos in HK. Go if you like tacos, vibe is great too. Excited to try their a la carte menu, and happy to finally see some “real” Mexican food in HK!I don’t usually do brunch reviews, but this one was so fun, I thought it deserved a separate review from their a la carte (will try it soon I hope…). TQM replaced my beloved Morrison Café (best veg burgers in HK RIP), and is integrated with the new Mojo Nomad hotel, so that they share a ground floor spa
I don’t usually do brunch reviews, but this one was so fun, I thought it deserved a separate review from their a la carte (will try it soon I hope…). TQM replaced my beloved Morrison Café (best veg burgers in HK RIP), and is integrated with the new Mojo Nomad hotel, so that they share a ground floor space where you can order beers as you check in; pretty cool. They’ve redone the place to be a lot more distinctive, and there’s a giant low table in the middle with couch seating all around it for a communal vibe. They keep the open counter facing Queen’s road so you can people-watch to your heart’s content.
The brunch menu is simple but amazing – free flow tacos, Caesar salad and quesadillas from 12-3 for $280, and you choose a separate main course as well. There are free flow options as well
We tried all the tacos:
The Green taco and the Carnitas Taco
I really liked the green taco, fried kale and corn with some bean for texture (add some extra hot sauce). Carnitas were tasty (lots of pork!) but a bit boring
(from left to right) Quesadilla, Trump Taco, Ox Salpicon (shredded ox)
We weren’t huge fans of the chicken quesadilla – the cheese is interesting – a bit runny and much stronger than the typical quesadilla cheese, but a bit overpowering. I recommend you try though.
Trump Taco is cute – beef tongue with chicharron (deep fried pork fat), but I found it a bit too one-note – lots of meat without any offsetting acidity or spice. Still good if you like beef tongue
Ox Salpicon – best taco of the day – shredded beef with pickled carrots and avocado puree. Complicated and delicious – a must-have.
One thing to highlight- they use perfectly toasted corn tortillas, which I assume are homemade because they are perfect: thickness, bite, flavour, and consistency. I’d recommend visiting TQM just to see what a great taco tortilla tastes like.
Caesar Salad
Surprisingly delicious! I ate two bowls myself – you can really taste the anchovies in the dressing, and though I couldn’t tell you for sure, the cured egg does add something funky to the flavour.
The entrees we tried were the
Huevos Rancheros I liked them – they’re a total mess as they’re supposed to be, with the egg running into the avocado and tomato sauce. Luckily the tortilla at the bottom retained its crunchiness until the end, and that gives it some body.
Steak Sandwich
It’s shredded steak so my friend was a bit disappointed – still think the beefiness comes through, and the cheese and mayo add some depth. Fries as good as they look – haven’t seen curly fries in ages!
Overall, I am very excited by TQM. Real Mexican food in a cool setting, and more importantly 50 ft from my apartment. The tacos were very legitimate, and the overall quality of the food promises a lot from their normal menu. I recommend the brunch completely, if only to try those amazing tortillas. TQM te quiero mucho!
