Trying to skip carbs for a day and La Rotisserie who offers authentic French rotisserie chicken immediately came in mind. I am glad they opened a new branch in Wan Chai as it is much more convenient to me. I ordered half a chicken with a side to go for the night.
The new branch at Wanchai has the same setup and vibe - dark wood counter, black chalkboard menu, huge rotisserie oven, quiche and dessert display window and the open kitchen.
They also did set lunch like any other branches from 12pm to 2.30pm for a quarter roasted chicken, a side dish and a soup for HKD68.
The take away box is a sturdy paper box in black. I think it looks very cool. I originally wanted to keep the box but the chicken oil stained the box so I threw it away afterwards.
The box is big enough to hold a set lunch or a whole chicken. Below held my half chicken and a side.
The side is a huge cup of french beans with chopped carrots, white radish and yellow pepper. The beans were very buttery but too soft in texture, lacking the crisp that I love. The carrots and yellow peppers were sweet but also a bit too soft in texture. The white radish on the other hand were a bit overly hard, seemed not cook through.
The half chicken was nicely roasted in golden yellow glossing skin with drooling aroma! The skin was extremely savoury, where the taste was mainly given by the charred spiced on the chicken skin. Both the dark and white meat were tender, the dark meat was slightly smoother.
A cup of chicken jus were given to pour over the chicken if you feel the meats are a bit dry. The jus was basically oil dropped during the roasting. Please please please pour this over the chicken, the jus enhance the flavour ALOT!
Both the portion of the rotisserie chicken and the beans were very generous, I can only finish half of both for dinner, so I brought the leftovers for lunch the next day.
