The place is a down-to-earth homely restaurant that makes little fuss about the decor, yet you can't help notice the juxtaposition of the giant speaking cow plastered on the wall (he'll tell you about the specials), the constant stream of black/white french films and quite Chinese style floor tiles.  That aside, tt's all about the food and enthusiastic service here.

I opted for the two course set lunch ($98) which came with a nice Vegetable Velouté Soup that is actually a lot heartier than it sounds. It was a pleasant yellow hue of blended vegetables with cream and perfected complemented the bread (which our French manager so feverishly sliced beside us). The texture was perfectly smooth and had a gorgeously rich thickness and aromatic taste with a hint of natural sweetness from the vegetables...carrots i pressume.

The set lunch main was the Pan Fried Mullet Fillet with Lemon Sauce and Saffron Rice. I would describe this as more of an international dish rather than French as you'd easily find a variation in any modern western restaurant, but good food knows no boundaries! The fish was well executed with slightly charred skin and just mildly salted, accentuating the fresh meaty fish. The bed of rice it was laid on was average; the saffron gave it a nice color, but nothing outstanding in terms of flavors or texture. The sauce was the highlight, it was absolutely delicious! It was rich and creamy and tangy as well; elevating the dish to a whole new level!

The Tartiflette ($178) was ordered off the set menu, and a lucky choice! It was rich, creamy, cheesy, and layered with bacony meat between the sheets of potatoes that gave it a flavor burst every time you bit into it. There is no arguing against this ingredient combination and La Grand Bouffe baked this splendidly!

Overall a pleasant dining experience and wonderful addition to the recent trend of down-to-earth French cookeries like La Port Parfume, FAB, etc. A special mention is the very friendly service of the staff there.
