I really wanted to like this place, actually, I used to quite like this place, but not anymore. I really wanted to like this place, actually, I used to quite like this place, but not anymore. A few years ago, before all the hype and hoopla from TV and magazine coverge extolling the virtues of this little shop, the dumplings were actually superior to what you can get from the supermarket frozen aisles, but sadly, not anymore. I've been a lifelong fan of dumplings, but I simply cannot recommend this to anyone. I had the pork with zun veggie dumpling (10 for $32) and the filling had been bland and flavourless, there was no sense of taste whatsoever from the pork and the veggies within were minced and soggy. I used up about half a bottle of vinegar and soy sauce just to impart some flavour onto these sad pockets of bland meat. As for the dumpling shell, it was bloated and doughy from being overcooked, as opposed to being al dente. At $32 for 10, I find them quite expensive and left the shop still hongaray for more food given the cold, cold weather today. Next time, I'll try the shop next to them (which also specializes in dumplings) to see if it fares better, but I won't be returning to Wang Fu ever again. Let your own tastebuds guide you, not someone on TV who probably freeloads from the shop everytime they visit with their camera crew, and is thus compelled to give a positive review.
