A friend treated us here to its Christmas Dinner. As soon as I entered the gastropub I was greeted by a big happy crowd at the door, and soon I found out they were having a wedding party when everyone in the pub cheered to crooning love songs!
Well back to our Christmas dinner...this fact was pretty obvious as our table was decked with Christmas crackers and all, so we all got a little early Christmas present!
I stuck to my vegetarian option while successfully persuading my fellow diners to try out the scrumptious Ribboned Tasmanian Spring Vegetables as starter. (Although it should be summer in Tassie now I guess...) The beautifully plated dish consisted of crispy beets (my favourite!), organic cottage cheese (plus a few flaxseeds on top to add to the awesomeness), saffron and carrot dressing. Jumping on the raw food bandwagon maybe, it looked like some raw pasta made of crisp carrots, beets, squash and radishes, but trust me you'd absolutely fall in love with it!
The host and another friend chose the festive staple - Roast Turkey - as the main course. According to them it was done to the British tradition. Well I tried a bit of the turkey (not anyone's fault just that I never quite liked it) while I preferred the chestnut stuffing instead.
My veg main course was Mushroom & Truffle Gnocchi. The gnocchi were sized too large for bite-size consumption while the sauce consisting of caramelised carrots, oregano and thyme pesto (and some Parmesan here and there) was way too salty.
While a Christmas dinner isn't complete without a Christmas Pudding, our waitress strongly recommended against it on the basis of personal taste. We ordered one to share anyway. Our anglophilic host like it but I preferred the pudding (and the brandy butter/custard sauce) to have a higher alcohol content and maybe a bit softer in texture. The other dessert, Squiffy Trifle, did its wonders with rum and brandy, just enough to satisfy my little boozy crave while not actually having to drink
We had a great time over (generally) good food, great company and toasted to a happy festive season ahead.

The Christmas menu is served throughout December but The Globe is closed on Christmas Day =__="
