The decor is nice in an understated way. The lighting is dark enough to provide a bit of romance but bright enough to be able to clearly read the menu and see the food. The chairs are the deep comfy sofa type.
The head chef came to our table and explained the specials of the day and the wait staff were polite and attentive without being intrusive.
They do not have an a la carte menu but instead serve a 4 course set meal with a large selection of Soups, Appetizers, Mains, & Desserts. Coffee & Tea are included. The price ranges from roughly $350 to $500 plus 10% and depends only on the Main Course chosen.
Bread
French Bread, Brown French Bread, and some type of bun, served with butter. Nice enough and they refilled it when asked.
Soup
There was a choice of around 6 or 7 soups.
The French Onion Soup was amazing. Usually restaurants scrimp on the cheese but this soup had a thick layer on top of the bread. In fact there was so much cheese the soup became almost creamy after a few bites. It was very rich and delicious. Not exactly the classic style but oh so good.
The Fish Chowder looked like typical Hong Kong style, but my companion liked the taste.
Appetizer
There was a choice of around 8 or 9 appetizers.
The Foie Gras was a large portion served on top of crispy french bread. The flavor was excellent, with a very rich buttery flavor, not at all gamey as I have had on occasion. It came with a small salad on the side but I was already getting full so I didn't try it.
The Escargot was quite different than the classic french style. These were served in a tomato and cheese broth (its hard to describe but definitely unlike a pasta sauce). It was so good my companion even dipped some bread in to mop up the broth.
Main Course
Again there was a very large selection of main dishes.
The Steak Fillet and King Prawn was 1 huge prawn and probably around 6 oz. of steak. The steak looked a bit small on the plate but considering I had just eaten two very rich courses it was plenty. The King Prawn was served butterflied in the shell and was succulent. It had a very light seasoning that allowed the underlying taste of the prawn to shine through. The steak was tender, juicy and cooked medium rare. Unfortunately it was partially covered by a tasteless brown sauce that was not mentioned in the menu description. I guessed it was a gravy and not the black-pepper sauce that was described with a similar steak. I scraped off the sauce and enjoyed the quality meat. The sides were 3 plain small potatoes and a very good half tomato stuffed with spinach.
The Seared Tuna Risotto was delicious according to my companion.
Dessert
The Crepe Suzette were served warm with a slightly crispy outer rim and bit of caramelization in the sauce added the occasional nice hint of crunch.
The Chocolate Cake with Ice Cream was dense and decadent.
At around $400 dollars a person for dinner, W28 isn't cheap. But 4 courses of delicious food in a nice setting at a price not much more than a main alone would cost at a similar restaurant make this a great value.
