Chullschick is a place I wanted to try for a while as I've never tried Peruvian before. So, I've often been curious. On a weekday, boyfriend came to have lunch with me in Central and he asked where I'd like to go. I mentioned this place. The place was quiet for lunch. The soup of the day was a corn. It was quite good. Not the creamy variety that I'm used to. It felt more like a lentil soup but it was somehow more fragrant with added spices. Cumin? Unsure.
We shared our lunch so we ordered a half a chicken ($128). For the sides we chose a salad and sweet potato. The chicken was fantastic. The flavors were intense with various spices used. The meat, though a bit dry, was still fine. It came with a very spicy sauce on the side. The salad was dressed perfectly. Not too much dressing but just enough to coat every leaft. The sweet potatoes were soft and drizzled with honey and cinnamon.
Originally we wanted the steak but it was sold out so we chose a smoked pork sandwich with fries ($88). The bread they used was fantastic. A sweet flat bread. The pork was tender and fat with a great marinade. It was sandwiched with a soft sweet potato, pickled onions and micro greens. And wow ... lots and lots of crispy fries were provided.
Portions were bigger than anticipated so we were more than full. Food was delicous. Intense flavors with combinations of sweet, savory, sour and spicy. All rolled into one. Will definitely be back.
