Hokkaido Ice-cream fever!I have been here for lunch/dinner for several times, as it is quite hard to look for a comfortable place to sit and chat with friends. Main dishes here are so-so, but desserts, merely from the menu, are definitely attractive! That's why 3 of us came here just for after-meal dessert for girls' talk! We're arranged to sit near the windows, which is ideal place to chat. About ice-cream, we're all mad about it. So we ordered 3 desserts with Hokkaido Ice-cream on the top! Blu
I have been here for lunch/dinner for several times, as it is quite hard to look for a comfortable place to sit and chat with friends. Blueberry Hokkaido Ice-cream Sundae- First of all, I should admit that this is a mistake. We did not intend to order this dish, but we're misled by the name on the menu 'HOKKAIDO ICE-CREAM', one waitress told us that this was the only dish with this type of ice-cream on top of it. So, we ordered simply for tasting this special Japanese ice-cream. It's a bit disappointing when it comes- too plain, some blueberry sauce on top of two scoops of white ice-cream! Sad as we were, the other dish came, "Crispy Diced Toast with Ice-Cream", argh! the white ice-cream scoops look exactly (and smell) the same as the 'Hokkaido Ice-cream', so the waitress just now was misleading?!
Then we asked a manager-like lady, and she explained, 'our shop adopts Hokkaido Milk Ice-cream for all dishes! There's no difference between the ice-cream scoops on the two dishes!' Then we explained to the lady that we ordered the Blueberry Hokkaido Ice-cream Sundae because we hoped for some different type of ice-cream (we mean the Hokkaido Milk one). Anyway, the manager patiently explained everything and changed the dish for us! We were actually aiming at the waffles before ordering the Blueberry Ice-cream Sundae. Thus, we asked for it again. The waitresses kindly exchanged it for us. The third dessert is "Blueberry Waffles with Ice-cream". After clarifying that the ice-cream is actually the type we wanted, we enjoyed the dishes and were quite surprised to have such enthusiastic waitresses here!
About the Taste of the three dishes:-
Blueberry Hokkaido Ice-cream Sundae-- the blueberry sauce on the ice-cream was a bit artificial, not too natural, not recommended to try.
"Crispy Diced Toast with Ice-Cream"-- A must-try, and we were quite full after eating all the crispy toasts. The toasts were coated with a thin layer of honey, and the sauce on top plus the ice-cream goes very well. It's like eating honey comb (no exaggeration) and worths for money!
"Blueberry Waffles with Ice-cream"-- A bit disappointed, again the artificial blueberry sauce, but the waffles are crispy, though a bit dull with little sweet flavour. But the Hokkaido ice-cream on top compensated everything, the milky taste and the texture of waffles match, and the appearance of the dish is also eye-catching!
To conclude, Pokka Cafe is a lovely place to chit-chat with your buddies, a cosy environment which is hardly found in Mong Kok. Desserts are great, except the misleading ice-cream incident which happened on us that night. The waiters do not show signs to ask you to leave even though you occupied the seats for long, after finishing the desserts. For value, it's acceptable, given the environment and the food. I would recommend you to have a try, for some Hong Kong crossover Japanese desserts here.
